LDO Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I just ordered a Jimmy Flintstone White 3000 cab and I'm wondering what the heck that little panel/recess is. The resin cab will be for a custom toy hauler, maybe with a bigger sleeper added. Thank you.
Casey Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 (edited) Looks like a grille to allow hot air to escape? From an online sale listing: "The small doors under the xcab windows are access doors to the engine."' Or, auxiliary heater, maybe? Edited January 29, 2018 by Casey
dodgefever Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 There are good reference photos in this sale ad: http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/vehicles-sale/1955-white-3000-coe-truck-439522
LDO Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 Yeah, it looks like it's there to let hot air out. Those pics helped out. They also showed that what I thought was a sleeper is more of a package shelf. Still a cool truck, though. Thanks for the help, guys.
redneckrigger Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I believe that the door is an engine access and the grille is to let fresh air in for the intake. It could also serve to let hot air out as suggested above. On all of the references that I researched for the 3000 that I built, and can be seen in my avatar, the carburetor air intake is immediately behind that grille. The sleeper version actually has a small sleeper box incorporated into the cab as can be seen in the attached photo.
LDO Posted February 6, 2018 Author Posted February 6, 2018 Oh. I didn't know there were two (or more) versions. I have only seen the White 3000 as modern custom vehicles. The Jimmy Flintstone cab arrived on Friday. I did just a little bit of cleanup and started cutting up a Galaxie Limited 21 foot trailer to use as a sleeper. It has nice rounded corners, so it's ideal for that...except for the back end. I'm going to find out if I can get a second front wall From Galaxie Limited, to use for a back wall. I think it will be a cool project. The back end will have a ramp to carry a street rod or pair of motorcycles.
