Sport Suburban Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Here is a quick build of a Fujimi GT40 MKII. This is of course the LE Mans Winning 66 car. I plan to build all three from that race and have the kits. The Fujimi kits decals are really bad so I used decals from Renessance Models and they are great but expensive. I messed up my first paint job and had to strip it and start again. I know it is way to shiny for a race car but I just love it. I did finish a second GT40 this last year and will post that one soon as well.
Top.Secret Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) Beautiful I like the additional silver fern there. Edit #2 I'm a clueless nut. Did some looking up, from the book GT40 "The car was done up in the NZ sporting colors of black and silver and the crew had even painted a fern and the initials NZ on the side of the car." - Chris Amon It's not 'additional' after all. Learned somethin new I guess. Edited January 31, 2018 by Top.Secret
Gramps46 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Raoul, Very smooth build. Congratulations. Gary
peekay Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Back when NZ ruled the race tracks AND the rugby fields of the world! Beautiful job Raoul!

afx Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) This is the restored car (for what it's worth) showing the silver fern. And the car at the end of the race. Edited January 31, 2018 by afx
El Caballo Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 What a great job. I used to see the "en-zed" on people's cars when I was living in Oz.
Bainford Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Beautiful GT-40. In my opinion this one was the nicest looking of the '66 LeMans cars.
W-409 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Even though I'm not that much of a Circle Track guy, these old Ford GT40s are cool cars. And your build is definitely one of the cleanest that I've seen. My hat is off for that flawless black paint job, and overall a very nice and clean work...As always.
vamach1 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Fantastic work. I have some of their decals for future projects.
Mark IV Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Note that the car (1048) does NOT have a "Gurney bubble" on the RH door in 1966, but does later. 1046 was used again in 1967 and had numerous changes done after the LeMans win. very nice model, well done! And Fujimi did miss the "NZ Fern Leaf" on the decal sheet!
FabbricaP Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Wow great build. The fern is a really nice touch. I’m working on another version of this kit myself, thanks for sharing
vamach1 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) I found these guides from Marsh models to be useful. Edited February 1, 2018 by vamach1
