Most Used Paint Color?

Recommended Posts

Well, if you're asking what paint I use more than any other in the process of building, it's hands down clear coat! :P

Yeah, I know, it's not a color, but that's what I use most.

If the question is, what color do I tend to paint my models more than others, it would probably be one shade or another of red.

But I like to stick to a pretty good mix of every color.

I love unusual color combinations.

Just looked at the display cases, it's a tie between silver, red, blue & gray at 7 each, followed by black and orange at 6.

I do use a lot of black for chassis and detail work. I was going to say gray primer but I use white primer too and those were 5 each!

The last year or so it seems that I have used an inordinate amount for Bronze to Orange colors with lots of Metallic. Trying hard to break the cycle since my display shelf looks like everything is the same color.

Surprisingly, white. I hate painting white, too.

Are we talking for bodies, or overall? If overall use, Tamiya Semi Gloss Black...or gray primer, if that counts, but it shouldn't because every part I paint gets that...

For bodywork, my favourite is rattle can acrylic ivory, or a light cream if you prefer. I think cream is a little more subtle rather than virgin bride white or matching Kim Kardashian's teeth such as my Gunze Cadillac and Frog Cortina pictured here.

I never took many pictures of my old models so sorry I can't compare it.

What color of paint do you use the most of, not counting primer.

The two paints I buy the most are Tamiya white primer and Tamiya flat black.  Yea, I know someone said primer doesn't count, but I use it for white with a clear coat over it.  To me the Tamiya flat looks more like a semigloss that their semigloss.  Those are the two I get in cases.

I don't know.

That's almost impossible for me to answer.

I have about a dozen models on the "start" list right now, all of them completely different colors!

I guess that if I counted the builds that I have in my "finished" collection right now, it would probably be one shade or another of green.

That's just my quandary,  I specifically try not to do 2 cars in a row, the same color.

When I was a kid, my favorite go to color combination was black and gold (loved the spec. ed. Trans Am - still do!) Until my dad pointed out that all my cars were the same color. Broke me out of that habit real quick.

Now that I like to build replica stock cars, I try to find unusual or very common color combinations that appeared on the real cars. My favorites tend to be tan and light gold earthtones or avocado greens on 60s and 70s bread and butter cars. I like the Crayola colors used on early 70s muscle cars. And the drab 2 tone greys, blues and browns of the 80s cars.

It just feels right if they just LOOK right.

And with online internet reference material, It's easy to find ideas for correct colors.
