crispy Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 (edited) Had to go to work before I could post it. I hope to take pictures outside tomorrow. A few tricky things with it. I'm fine with it, but could be happier. Cobra Colors Atomic Orange. Flocked interior. Basic box stock build. At least when I do my regular Corvette I'll know what to look for. Couple of more pictures of the car can be seen at MY FOTKI Will take more pics tomorrow! Chris After seeing the pictures blown up on my computer I have a few more touch-ups that will make me happier. But it is done. On to the next one. Chris Here's another indoor one I took with the better camera as well: Again, thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them. ismaelg Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Great job Chris! A beautiful car in a gorgeous color! Love it! Thanks,
Raul_Perez Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 That color really POPS outside!! Thanks for sharing,
stevehansen Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Very Well done. Cool color. How much body prep did you need to do? it looks quite smooth. Mine appears to require a little body sanding
Daniel Lynch Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Very nice Corvette! I like the color, it is an GM color? Daniel
crispy Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Thanks guys! I appreciate the comments. I fixed a few flaws I saw after picture taking so it looks much better now. As for the questions. Prep work on the body, as Ismael says, is very vital to get the smoothest best looking paint job you can get. It starts with the plastic itself. I sand all mold lines and seams if any. Fill spots and prime. Once primed I usually wet sand with 1500 grit or so. Look for more imperfections and re-coat as needed with wet sanding each time. Once I get some color misted on I will wet sand that as well and leave the final color coat as is unless something is in the paint. Then mist on clear, wet sand. Final coats of clear get the wet sanding and rubbing. Paint jobs usually take me a good week to do. One day spent on rubbing and polishing alone. As for the paint itself, yes that is a Factory GM color. Atomic Orange. I used Cobra Colors for that. Scalefinishes also produces this color. Again, Thank You! Chris
Len Woodruff Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 So Chris you didn't do anything to "seal" the body from the lacquer?
crispy Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Len, that is correct. Just used plasti-kote t-237 with no adverse effects. Chris
