Oldmopars Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 With the help of camero69 I now have a new grill and hood for my 1980 Ramcharger to turn it into a 1975 Trailduster. I'm glad that they decided to do an 80, the body is the same all the way back to 73.
camaro69 Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Hi Scott, thanks for your confidence and for your feedback. @Al: 7 hours ago, thatz4u said: nice, does he sell them? website? Yes, I do but the hood has to be corrected. It doesn´t fit like I wanted it. Hope to get the corrections done next week. Would prefer you wait awhile. You can find these parts at shapeways. Only search my nickname "camaro69" and you will find everything I already offer. Rico
Oldmopars Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 As you can see, the grill is outstanding. I have never seen a kit part that even comes close, the detail is crazy. As he said, the hood still needs to be adjusted slightly, but even as is it s great. I had to do a little warm and bend to get it to curve the right way, then it needed a little work at the back. Once he is done tweaking for the final adjustment, they will be perfect.

I've always wanted to build a replica of the paramedic squad truck from "Emergency!" By the way Scott, I'll be watching your build on this. Are you going to do it stock or off road? I have a 1/64 diecast of the Plymouth from Greenlight. It's stock in blue with the dog dish caps. That's another one I'd like to build, light blue with white lower 2 tone. Just don't see enough of these built as the older versions.
Oldmopars Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 So, what led me down this road was that I had asked to trade a grill from the 80 Ramcharger for a grill from a 70's Little Red Express or other Dodge. I found someone to trade, but he showed me how far off the size was between the 1/24 and 1/25. The 1/25 grill was way too small in the 1/24 truck I have. So, camero69 generously offered to design the 1/24 scale version. So, no, it would be too big for your truck. I a no expert with 3D software, but he may be able to scale it down for you, its up to him. I would love to do an "Emergency" truck. As for mine, I plan to do a very stock build, maybe a Forest Service truck or Border Patrol. I will remove the side trim and go with basic wheels.
Oldcarfan27 Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Thanks for the info. He made those parts from a 3d printer? Man, I can't wait until the prices go down and the creativity goes up on those things! We won't need to search for missing parts, we'll just make our own. Can't wait to see your project progress. Keep it up.
Oldmopars Posted April 12, 2018 Author Posted April 12, 2018 The parts were printed by Shapeways, unless your father is Bill Gates, you won't be buying one of these 3D printers. Check out their web page, the 3D printers they use are the Million Dollar variety. You can buy small ones from Home Depot and other places, but the quality is poor at best. Only good for stuff that is larger with little to no details.

This is the new cottage industry of the future - model parts on demand. No stagnant overstock, only make 'em when they're ordered. Imagine what the Big model companies can do this way. They can DESIGN anything and only run it when there's an order. No more tooling up failing kits, the only setup they would need is the computer design information for each kit. They could even redesign old kits and run them again, and since they're only selling as many as the market wants, they can only make them when there's an order for it. Sounds like a win - win to me! This is just the tip of this new technology iceberg. I hope this happens soon. Besides, we know that as modern technology becomes commonplace, prices go way down and it becomes affordable to the common man. Just like home computers, color printers, cellular phones and big screen TVs. It'll happen - someday. Edited April 14, 2018 by Oldcarfan27

Keep it up Rico, I know you're going to be the next "Modelhaus". Can you try copying an old part to reproduce? Edited April 14, 2018 by Oldcarfan27
camaro69 Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Thanks Patrick, if you have a special part to reproduce feel free to send me a PM like Scott did it before. I can also try to scale the grilles for the Trailduster and the Ramcharger. Would be great if you could send me a pic of the front end of the 1/25 scale kit. Rico
