The short version of the story is my furnace quit on me and the repairman geeked out on my model collection and asked if I'd build a model of his 90 mustang. Without doin any research I said sure, now I'm wondering what is the best car to even start with?... The mpc 88 looks like a good one but is it too expensive? I'm just not that up on the history and availability of a hatchback foxbody...  He sent me some pics of it. I'd like to do it as accurate as possible with rear window louvers and Cobra R wheels and if possible the small hood scoop. Maybe I'll do the weathering like his, I don't think he'd mind he seemed pretty proud of the car the way it is. I need help on what kit to use and louvers, wheels etc. etc.. Thanks in advance.

I think the only way to go would be get an earlier MPC Fox hatch and bash it with Revell's '90 notch. MPC DID make an '87 GT, which would be close but you'd still need the LX grille, tail lights, etc. I know the MPC '79 had a set of rear window louvres and a couple issued after had them too but I don't know how many. I don't think the "wild breed" or later ones had them.

The Tamiya mid-'90s Cobra-R has a 5 bolt version of those wheels, maybe someone does them in resin??

Hopefully, someone else with more knowledge will chime in with more info.
