Modeldude428 Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Okay so this is my question now realizing where my problems have been coming from I'm realizing that I've been using Tamiya paints to hand paint with I've gotten in a good habit of only airbrushing bigger Parts in the bodies of my car the inside I like to do by hand so my question is I'm wondering what paints are you guys using if you're doing any kind of hand painting because I know Tamiya paint suck I like to stick with acrylic any answered was would be greatly appreciated
El Roberto Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Tamiya is very good when sprayed but not so great for brushing. Try Vallejo, it brushes ok.
Deathgoblin Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Games Workshop/Citadel Miniatures' paints are really good quality and very opaque. Also an extremely WIDE selection of colors and effects.
Snake45 Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 I've been experimenting with some of the cheap craft acrylics at Walmart for interiors and such. Some of them seem to work pretty well. How well varies by color and brand, but at 50c to $2 a bottle, they're not expensive to experiment with.
Bill Eh? Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Quentin, I realize that nobody wants to have to buy an additional product to make painting possible. Tamiya has a product called Paint Retarder (Acrylic). It come in a glass bottle the same as their Extra Thin Cement. The cap is turquoise in colour. It is an additive which slows down the drying time. It allows the paint to self level. Tamiya acrylics are great when airbrushing, but somewhat problematic when brush painted. Decant a small amount of paint to a separate container, and then ad a drop or two of the paint retarder. Hopefully this will help. Thinking of Snake's response, acrylic paint retarder could help with most craft acrylic paints. It may not even be necessary to buy Tamiya's product. Many art supply brands have their own acrylic paint retarder.

I would like to experiment with these paints and am curious what you use to mix them with and how you prevent them from rubbing off when handling?
