I wonder about those spindly front engine mounts...looks like they'd snap like a dry twig the first time that engine was fired up!

:P ###### Shane, that thing is the MOOK! I still can't get over the way you made the rear Brakes.Them things actually look functional! The rest of the ol crate din't come out too shabby either! Looks like the real thing kiddo!, Be proud of it ,it looks GREAT!!!! B)

Nice to see this done, Shane. I'm with Harry--them front engine mounts look awfully skinny fer such a big engine--could that be why it's called "Pure Hell", coz it's pure hell to drive? Love the paint, and all the details B):P

First, thanks for the comments

next, heres a side shot of Pure hell.

purehellsideview.jpg

in this version you can see the mounts and the way they were designed. there was also a diagnal rod( which I will be adding as well)

The idea was to allow the engine to raise up in the frame to allow more weigh transfer.

Just incase anyone was intrested in the crazy engine mounts

even in todays modern fuel cars the front mount is held in place with a strap. the mid mount takes all the stress...

Thanks Shane. Watching yer build, I got the impression you were making an accurate 1/25 replica of the 1/1 and even tho them front mounts 'look' skimpy, I figgered it was something they were trying, always trying new things 'n @. Didja ever get to see the 1/1 in action? oh, and btw, I figgered out (I'm assuming here) that the 'radiator' is actually the go juice 'tank'.......correct? Awesome car--awesome build!

Thank you very much...

I tried to replicate the car as close as I could but I wiil admit I took a few "privileges" along the way...

Other than on video I have never seen the car run in this version. Altereds have always peaked my interests and Richs cars were the top of the food chain. Very simple and purpose built. Next would be Mike Sullivans altereds.

Yes the radiator is the fuel tank in this version. there was an earlier verion that ran a "buggy Spring" with a Moon Tank mounted under the grill shell. and then of course the Hemi era with the football tank out in the wind. One version had a small catch tank with radiator hoses coming from the valve covers down to it. wild vent system...

Theres a few details left to finish like breathers on the valve covers and a few others.

Excellent build. The details and paint are right on. Looks like the original to me. I've had one of those original revell bodies for prob 30 or 40 yrs but never did anything with it. After seeing what you did makes me want to do something w/ it.

Like I said before that's an excellent job.

The picture in your last post isn't showing on my computer, but I was curious and went online to do a google search. You're right...those engine mounts really are just "sticks". Hard to believe that with the twist the engine would produce that those mounts actually worked!

Thanks Harry for posting that pic. I have limited access to the internet while at work so I wasnt sure if it was my computer or not.

I'll post one from my home computer this evening...

Yes these cars were violent to say the least. 91 inch wheelbase and poor traction made for one helluva ride. with the advent of the slipper clutch things came under control some, but not much...

thanks everyone. its been fun...

The engine mounts look pretty accurate to me.The reason they didnt break in the "old days" was because the chassis flexed so much, they were constructed of muffler tubing back in the day.I read a story about Wild Willie Borsch and he said if they bounced it off the guard rail at an event, that night they would look for a local muffler shop to get some tubing and a welder.Pretty scary considering the horsepower they had,but thats what made the men that drove them drag racing "gods"

The overall detail in your build is outstanding! I really like the brakes and all the linkage, you usually dont see clutch linkage added very often.

Wow brilliant work mate! B) I was thinking of building a Pure Hell/Pure Heaven replica myself but the Bantam Blast and Winged Express kits are hard to get here.
