Luc Janssens Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Guys, what's the difference between Mack's "R" vs "DM" designation? Thanks in advance for your input.
Fat Brian Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 The biggest difference in the kits is the offset cab in the DM600 and the steel butterfly hood and V8 in the DM800.
Jim B Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 The DM is also Mack's vocational chassis (DM stands for Dump/Mixer). The R-series is a more highway oriented truck.
maxwell48098 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 In addition to the obvious cab offset, DM series (produced from 1966 - 1988) chassis were much heavier duty than the standard R series (produced from 1965 - 1990) . Mack also offered the RD and RM (1971 - 1990) series which basically the heavy duty DM chassis with the R-series cab.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Just to add to what everyone has said, there was also the U model which was more of a highway version like the R model, but with the offset cab.
Luc Janssens Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 Thanks for the input guys, so for a Mack with dumper body, one can use the Amt "R" cabin with the Mpc "DM 600" chassis (don't like the offset cabin
Ben Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Main differences are that the DM hood is shorter and it’s cab is offset to the right.
Fat Brian Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 You're not going to see a lot of the chassis differences in a model, I don't think it would be necessary to swap the R cab into the DM600 chassis. The R chassis will be fine for a dump truck.
