unclescott58 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 (edited) I was at a local hobby store yesterday (Hub Hobby in Richfield, MN), and saw something new. At least it was new to me. Model Master Instant Adhesive For Plastic Models. I know it's basically another "Superglue." But, has anybody in our community tried it? Is it any good? Any tricks in using it? Or things to watch out for? Testors makes three interesting claims on its packaging. 1. It cures in 10-20 seconds. 2. It won't attack paint. And 3. It cures clean and clear. Sounds good. But is it? SfanGoch Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 This stuff has been around for a pretty long time. Pacer Technologies makes an identical product; and, it wouldn't surprise me if RPM isn't getting this packaged by Pacer specifically for the Testors brand.
Gt fan Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I build a lot of resin and white metal kits. This stuff does not work well.

Were you joining metal to plastic or resin to plastic ? Do you feel that it wouldn't work even for plastic to plastic or is it just an inferior product all together ??

Arron Alpha is the best for super glue. Will not come a part.
peteski Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Looks like just another repackaged CA glue (aka cyanoacrylate, or super-glue). Nothing magical about it. There are many similar adhesives available in hobby shops and hardware stores.
Rider Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Dollar store CA is the best bang for your buck. No need to buy CA brand name stuff.
droogie Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 How do you know? Have you tested dollar store CA against every name brand CA?
unclescott58 Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 Okay, I tried the Model Master Instant Adhesive a couple of days back. It really seems no better or worse than other CA glues I've tried in the past. It's a little too liquidy coming out. But it worked okay. But, I can see no real reason why I'd buy their CA glue over others in future. And yet I'm not not unhappy with the product.
unclescott58 Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 I found two plus sides to Testor's Model Master Instant Adhesive. Both dealing with the design of bottle's dispensing tip. First, the bottle comes with two separate caps. One for the dispensing tip itself. And another for the top of the bottle overall. Because of this, on the second time using the product, there seemed to be less of a mess than I found from using other forms of "super glue." Both caps came off nicely. And I found no messy debris from the previous usage. Second, the dispensing tips design helps place the glue exactly where I want it. Again, more control and less of a mess. These are two good recommendations for this product, if nothing else.
SfanGoch Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 I use these, $2.30 from RC Planet. Bonus: the tubing can be used for fuel lines and small diameter hoses. For precision CA placement, I prefer using dental probes, $4.97 from Widget Supply. Place some CA on a medicine bottle lid and dip the tip. Highly recommended by pros for those hard to reach areas.
peteski Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 My precision CA applicator is a large sewing needle with half if its eye cut off. It is basically a tiny fork. The other end is then mounted in an acrylic rod handle, but a dowel would work too. I take a piece of aluminum foil and put a drop of CA on it. Then I dip my applicator in it and transfer the glue to the area which needs the glue. Works very well.
