Your favourite Box art

Recommended Posts

AC Cars produced the AC289 after their Shelby contract ended.  They installed 289 engines in left over 427 bodies and dubbed them "AC289".  The hoods were stock on the cars.

The hood on the box art is similar to those used on the (2) supercharged 427s Shelby produced.

Wonder if that hood and scoop really come in the box ?

It does not. It is a standard kit. I had hoped it would be as the box shows but it is not. I still would have bought it anyway just to have it in my collection. Found it on ebay from someone in Russia. I'm sure there is more out there but it is the one and only I ever saw on ebay since I have been buying there since 1999.

I'll bet many of us geezers got hooked on scale modeling with this Aurora box art, and had this as their first kit.  How could you resist that box-top, with the Me-109 shot full of holes and the pilot bailing out?

I had that kit--molded in a sort of metallic burgundy. I still have a couple kits from that same series--F9F Panther, P-51H Mustang, and Spitfire. Also have a VERY rare Lockheed F-90.

Same kit, 2 different approaches to box art, years apart.  Original ESCI and Italeri re-issue.  No doubt for licensing reasons, Italeri didn't even mention the vehicle name on its box.  The ESCI decals also had several trademarks in them, like "Air Camping" and the Land Rover logo.  The re--issue decal sheet is tiny, but gives you tiger head decals for the doors.  The basic kit is a nice curbside, whichever version you find.

From Jo-Han's short-lived "Custom Car" series.  The custom version of the kit was front-and-center on the box.  But the kits still had all the stock parts.

The car just looks plain mean and nasty in that art.  It reminds me of the '66 Olds Toronado in Stephen King's "The Dark Half."
