The AMT kit was issued under the Frog brand name in the UK under licence as was the MPC by Airfix a number of years ago. I have the Frog kit still in my stash and am considering converting it back to what the Cobra was spawned from, the AC Ace. A resin AC Ace Bristol trans-kit for the AMT Cobra is in the works. It will be offered through Historic Racing Miniatures if you are interested. Edited August 22, 2018 by afx
Daddyfink Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 And don't forget this monster. The wheels and tires where always a sticking point with me, they just lacked the look
Greg Myers Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 enough to peek the interest of a few here Kinda wake up the board. Really no different than post about the differences of any other make.

Dave Van Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Monogram offered a Daytona coupe body and tire/wheel KIT in 1/32 scale to be used with their slot car chassis. A very nice kit that I had hoped would be made into a static kit someday.
Oldcarfan27 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I found this one. Not sure, is it the MPC kit?
cobraman Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 That kit was issued under 4 names. MPC, ESCI Ertl, AMT Ertl and Airfix. The Airfix is hard to find at least I have trouble pinning one down.

One big amazing Cobra thread would be just fine. As soon as I figure out how to merge five threads into one, it will be done. I think for right or wrong we ended up with more threads because it started out not as a generic post about Cobra's but rather only about AMT specific models. Then one was started on just Monogram Cobra's ect. That's my 2 cents anyway.

It was for a 1/43 Daytona Coupe kit from a Japanese manufacturer. This wasn't your average resin model. As a matter of fact, it was made out of brass. The whole model. Brass chassis, drivetrain, suspension, the works. Oh, the body panels were formed from almost paper-thin brass, too. You had to assemble this yourself by brazing or soldering the parts and everything you could possibly imagine was functional. What really made this kit stick in my mind was the price...............$1699. I've been trying to find more info on this for years. I had one of the 1/43 kits that had about 300 parts (metal, photo etch) that I ended up trading because I figured I would never build it. I think it was made by Superior.
cobraman Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I have seen that kit. Builds up very nice. I have seen it go for 300.00 to 600.00 bucks. I don't have one. That kind of money I will devote to a different hobby. I probably could not build it very good anyway.
cobraman Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 There is one on the bay right now. Asking just under 300 dollars.
Greg Myers Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Go for one of the Monogram 289's they're nice with some photo etch as well. They're out there for reasonable prices.

cobraman Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Just went to take a pic of it and I can not find it again. I should have put it in my watch section.
cobraman Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 You are so right. This is a very nice little kit. Very detailed and really nice PE wire wheels. I have built at least 4 and they go together very nicely. Several on the bay now. I paid 15 with shipping for my last one but they normally around 20 bucks or so.

It fail to generate enough interest to get off the ground although I did some R&D for him.
vamach1 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 (edited) Only $33 a month for a year. Edited August 24, 2018 by vamach1

The 1:43 scale kit is wonderful but have always been curious why Monogram wouldn't also issued this as a 1:24 scale kit and increase their return on the R&D investment. Do you have any insight Dave?
