Owner of the real thing commissioned me, I matched the color paint from a chip sample card. I had the dashboard, and bumpers that I removed the horrid mold marks from chrome plated. Thanks for contributing. Gramps46: Thank you for letting me know. Mustang1989: cool restoration!
Italianhorses Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Interesting thread. I still have a few I built back in late 90-s early 2000-s... Don't have pictures right now, but maybe I should take some new ones with good camera.
Jim N Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I started building again in the 1980's and these are the three survivors. The Tim Richmond car will get re-done when I get around to it.
dodgefever Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 (edited) None of my childhood models survived intact. These are the oldest I have, circa 1990-91. Edited September 6, 2018 by dodgefever
NYLIBUD Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Jim,I really like those older NASCARs.Great job.
OldTrucker Posted September 7, 2018 Posted September 7, 2018 (edited) I built this one in 1968 and the only thing change was the addition of the hood scoop. This one was built in earlyto mid 1980's I guess? Edited September 8, 2018 by OldTrucker
Richard Bartrop Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) I built this one in the early 80s. I've kept it in one of those Jo-han Sho-cases to preserve it. Edited September 8, 2018 by Richard Bartrop
Tom Geiger Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Ok, ancient history time... My oldest survivor is my Mini Cooper. I've had this since I was 12 or 13, early 1970s. This was available from AutoWorld as a finished car in a case, and in Europe it was sold that way and as a prepainted diecast kit. I lived in Germany at the time, so mine was a kit. You can see some of my custom touches. Testors brush painted hood with arrow decals off some aircraft model. I didn't like the grill supplied so I blacked out the opening. Testors sticky white lettering on the tires that might be dry by now. At one time it had cut down Mustang GT caps on it, but I found the original metal ones on a later parts car I got on eBay. Dig the orange felt carpet. Somehow this one survived all these years on my knick knack shelf. I still love my Mini! Most everything I had from my teen years got trashed by my father after I moved out of the house. The closet everything was stored in got termite infested so he chucked everything! The only kits that survived were a few Airfix 1/32 cars, an unbuilt Revell Porsche 914 and this Anglia I started to build in my early teens. Didn't get all that far, other than this poor paint job! I still have it in the box. That's what exists from my youth. I got back into the hobby in 1989 and I have all the models I have built since! I can post some of those early ones if requested.
gtx6970 Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Probably my oldest survivors Johan 1969 Roadrunner and I think the Monza is an old MPC kit ( not 100% sure though ) Both built sometime early to maybe mid 80s time frame The AMT Daytona was maybe mid 90s time frame
Dave Darby Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 If any of you guys have Facebook, you should cruise over to Scale Survivors. Here are a few I built in the 70s from age 12 to 16. All of these are unrestored except for the Steaker Vette. It was repainted because I stripped it 30 years ago. But I used the same paint as original, and detailed to the same level.
W Humble Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 At age 73, most of my kits (some still unfinished) were from 1959-65 era; about twenty five, of forty-some. I'm restoring a number of 'crushed' kits (I'll try to attach two), and more-or-less scratch-building some crazy old-school Bonneville and drag cars, incl. a twin Cad V-16 car, using rear of Monogram (I guess) Indy racer ostensibly from the pre-WWII era. I am building a series of replicas, mas o menos, of cars I have owned: '51 Ford club coupe, '55 Chevy DelRay, '65 Pontiac Tempest Custom 326, and '51 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 2-dr sedan, plus a White 3000 tilt-cab (resin) car hauler (Ford C-Series running gear.) I'll be posting more when I'm finished with them. I use mostly PPG professional finishes, as I also restore 1:1 cars. I've been driving since 1961; the '55 Chevy. Oh yes, and a number of early Datsun 240Z's, replicating ones I've owned; one repainted die-cast is autographed by John Morton, Peter Brock, and ... myself! Pictured are two Revell MoPars I built in '62-3, though both had to be 'restored' in 2014 because of being crushed in storage when I went into the Army in 1968. Plymouth 'Fury S-6' (Hyper-Pak Slant 6) with '60-1 'bubble' roof, a huge improvement on stock! Dodge 'Dragon' 413 two-seat roadster. Both cars were in horrible condition, but needed saving. Gramps46 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I love seeing the oldies and what you have done with them. Maybe it is because of our similar ages.

TooOld Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I have several survivors from the late 60's but they're all in pieces , this is the only one I have that's still intact . An MPC Streaker Vette I built in 1977 . This photo was taken when I unboxed it for the first time 5 years ago .
Gramps46 Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Sweet build, thanks for sharing the survivor.

dragcarz Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 My oldest is my original MPC Don Garlets, RE1, from I think 1971 or 72. I originally built it out of the box without the rear spoiler as that was how it was on the box art. By 1987 the decals were pretty bad off so I used scotch tape and removed them. I had been scrounging replacement decals and replace them and clear coated them this time. I quit models in 1975 and didn’t start back until 1984. I built the JoHan 64 Dodge super stocker in 1984 and won 1st place, at the International Championship Auto Show, in St. Louis, I was hooked again and I have been building since.
TooOld Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Love the Garlits RE Dragster and the Dodge Super Stock is gorgeous !

But it definitely wasn't box stock. The next one will be just like the box art. Yours is gorgeous. Thank you for the inspiration! PS: this one was in pieces too. Put them back together and let's see em! Edited September 15, 2018 by Dave Darby
Tom Geiger Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Same kit that I came into cheap, I didn't follow the instructions!
