TarheelRick Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Just acquired a set of Pontiac 8-lug wheels from a Trumpeter Bonneville. Let me rephrase that, I acquired a set of very poorly reproduced 8-lug wheels, Trumpeter really screwed the pooch on these. They remind me of those "faux mag wheel" covers from the 60's, you know, the ones from J. C. Whitney for $12 a set. There is no depth to them and there is very minimal detail. Now for my real reason for this post, which resin-caster makes a quality Pontiac 8-lug wheel?
Mike Chernecki Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Get a set of wheels and tires from the Moebius 1961 Ventura.
GMP440 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Can you post pics of the Trumpeter 8 lug wheels?
ChrisBcritter Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 An NOS set of AMT 8-lugs on eBay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1962-PONTIAC-BONNEVILLE-ORIGINAL-HUB-CAPS-NOS-KIT-S-622-CIRCA-1962/332811448119?hash=item4d7d1baf37:g:UfoAAOSwq6pboWps
ChrisBcritter Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Jo-Han also produced shallow 8-lugs as custom parts for some of its full-sized cars, including the '61 Olds 88: Looks like Trumpeter copied them.
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 AMT & MPC did nearly every full sized, 60's Pontiac kit that they ever produced with pretty nice 8 lug wheels. I would think that they should be pretty easy to find on ebay. I personally have probably a dozen or more kits that contain them. Steve
TarheelRick Posted September 21, 2018 Author Posted September 21, 2018 Just checked my 65 Bonneville kit and it has a really nice set of 8 lugs. Guess I will need to try and cast a couple of sets.
High octane Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Ricky, I just checked my Trumpeter not so chrome tree, and you're right about the 8-Lug wheels as they are really shallow.
