Hi all I'm coming to the US in a couple of weeks to go to the California hot rod reunion in Bakersfield I'll also be in Pamona and San Francisco so if there is any hobby shop in the areas that I'm going that someone could recommend visiting while im over there it would be appreciated. I mainly build drag cars but I'm also interested in muscle cars too if that helps

Thanks Jason

Welcome and have a great visit!  Pegasus Hobbies is in Montclair, not too far from Pomona.  Try not to miss that one.  I used to stop at Pegasus on my home from the Pomona Swap Meet.  Home then was Los Angeles.  If you can get to L.A., some great ones are Burbank House of Hobbies in Burbank, Smith Bros. Hobby Shop in Reseda and Kit Kraft in Studio City.  All 3 of the last ones are within a short drive of each other.

Jason, that sounds like a great trip, plenty of cool places to see - the California Hot Rod Reunion is bucket list for sure - here's more..

If you have the time, a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA is a good place to spend a few hours. Take the vault tour as there are some great cars in there to see as well.

The hobby shops listed are worth the time, just be careful to not buy too much, the shipping will kill your budget!

+1 on the Petersen.  I went there in January and they had a magnificent display of low riders next to a gallery of vintage Bugattis, while at the same time there was about $100 million in Ferrari race cars on the other side of the 2nd floor from very famous movie cars.  And to top it all, a 1 to 1 Lightning McQueen.  AND about 75 feet away was Steve McQueen's Jaguar XK-SS.  I believe there will be a display of Porsche racing cars when you're in "The Southland".

Brookhurst hobbies http://www.brookhursthobbies.com in Garden Grove is another good shop.   If you are in San Diego, Discount Hobby Warehouse has two locations one in Kearny Mesa and one in San Marcos.  The Petersen museum is a great place to visit but there is another one that is more for the pre war cars and it is spectacular.  The Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar is a real stunning museum and shouldn't be missed.

Yes, definitely go to Pegasus. And if you can, the Petersen. I went to LA for work a couple times and was able to squeeze in both of those on a day off. Spent hours at both places.

There are two hobby shops in the San Francisco bay area.  In the east bay in San Leandro there is Hobbies Unlimited, http://www.hobbiesunlimited.net/ .  It is nice small hobby shop that carries models of every type.  The have a decent selection of model car kits.  This hobby shop reminds of the nice hobby shops that I used to shop at when I was a kid.  In the south bay there is Hobbytown USA in Sunnyvale, https://www.hobbytown.com/sunnyvale-ca/l40 .  This hobby shop is smaller than hobbies unlimited but also has a decent selection of model car kits.  Have fun!

I've been to both of the shops carrucha mentioned and I'd recommend Hobbies Unlimited. I've been going there since about 1968. Holy cow that's a long time
