I'd been looking for one of those old MPC '75 Road Runner kits for years and never got lucky, until I scored, of all things, a sparkly, may-as-well-be new MPC promo from the same year in this nasty metallic brown. But was happy nonetheless, curbside or not, did have to absolutely shred the entire chassis apart to be able to replace the boredom inducing standard hubcap wheels cause of course promos have arguably the best rolling wheels axle set-up of anything. Replaced the ripped asunder metal axles with some Torino GT wheels, tires and wheel backings, also used the door mirrors from the same kit to at least give the model some mirrors, even if they don't match/fit.

To make up for the lack of a engine I tried to give the interior some extra love, just couldn't get the seats out from the tub but ah well, still came out rather lovely. Used my own decal sheet for the whole shebang.

Nice work. Alas, a roadrunner in name only.

Even tho it was anemic by normal RoadRunner standards, the '75 is a true RoadRunner. RM21 is the VIN designation.

The "hot" engine for '75 was a 235 horse 400 V-8. This one looks very nice! I like the "in-your-face" yellow color!

And those seats look great!!

Looks great. The decals really bring it alive.

BTW, those "standard hubcaps" you took off that promo were actually an optional turbine style wheel first offered that year.

Very nice clean looking rebuild. Very fitting color for your Road Runner. The interior is the most outstanding part for myself. I remember MoPar's with an interior option much like what you did here. To bad the insurance companies killed the performance cars, they were such fun to own and drive.

I think you pretty much nailed it!

Excellent build.  The interior is wonderful.  Did you trim the decals after applying them?

Nope, just applied 'em as they were - designed them to fit the seats and doors without much hassle. And thanks!

Thanks man! I saw it built prior as white with gold stripes and I initially wanted to build it as one I spotted on Google with the same yellow and interior, just had a wide hood stripe and Plymouth call outs on the rear fenders, liked the cleaner look a bit better in the end. That and I desperately wanted to put on vector wheels, just couldn't bring myself to spend 20$ plus 23$ shipping for a Charger with the vectors in there.

I realized after it all that I missed the little bits of woodgrain on the dashboard(even though I did do the panel above the gearstick) and above the glovebox, but alas those I'll just add to the sheet later on. Still though, I dunno what it is about the near random beige-to-yellow stripes on the interior but I absolutely love it.

This is the decal sheet for those interested:

1975 was the last year for a 'real' Road Runner :

- Still had "RM" as its V.I.N. prefix

- Still on the B-body platform

- Still available with big block power ( albeit , the 400-4 ... and single exhaust [ at least on California models ] because of the catalytic converter )

1976-1980 were packages versus a separate model ; and they were based upon the then-new F-body ( * note : MPC kind of dropped the ball regarding the '76 Road Runner --- they slapped the name on the 1976 Fury [still a B-body ] annual ! ) , and didn't release an F-body kit or promo until 1977 .

I owned a '75 Dodge Coronet (basically the same car), with a 318. Pretty fair, but not a street machine. I also owned a '76 Dodge Charger Sport (also the same car) with a 400-4 and dual exhaust with no catalyst from the factory. Decent running car (140 MPH top end) but not the scorching straightline runner of older MOPARS. I am a huge fan of aANY B-body MOPAR, even the Cordoba!!
