jjsipes Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 So, in trying to get some models painted before winter sets in in the Mid-Atlantic and thought I'd dig out my Buick GSX kit. Found a picture of a GS that I liked and thought I would try to replicate it loosely. I ordered up some paint from Scale Finishes and and Photetch set from Model Car World for badging and set to work. Used half round strips for vinyl top trim and seams. Filled the hood tach recess.
RAT-T Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 LOOKS GREAT SO FAR, DOES MCW MAKE A GS GRILL INSERT FOR THAT?
jjsipes Posted October 15, 2018 Author Posted October 15, 2018 (edited) Yes but I haven't received it yet. Edited October 15, 2018 by jjsipes
RAT-T Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 NICE, WHERE IS IT LOCATED ON THE WEBSITE? I CAN'T FIND IT
mrmike Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Look under Photo-Etch Detail Sets-General Motors. It is 1970 Buick GSX Detail Set.
montelsc Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Looks good so far maybe we'll finish at the same time Didn't open my skylark kit yet do they come with the vinyl top??
jjsipes Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 No vinyl top on kit. I used plastic half round .040 in size
Dragonhawk1066 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Nice start. Looks to be a very convincing replica of a vinyl top. Can't wait to see more.

kelson Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 This looking like a great build in the works!!
jjsipes Posted May 8, 2019 Author Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) While I was spraying Clear on my 57 Bel Air, I thought I'd clear my GS. Edited May 8, 2019 by jjsipes
crowe-t Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Great job on this build! The paint and color look real nice.
Superbird McMonte Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) Nice job! Another of my favorite kits to build. Goes together real well! I’ve toyed around with a ‘71 conversion. Edited May 8, 2019 by Superbird McMonte
NOBLNG Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Looking real nice Jason. I have this kit in my stash and you're making me want to dig it out!

I don't have access to the conversion stuff used in this build, but then again I wouldn't mind using the GSX kit as is, but I definitely wouldn't paint it yellow!
jjsipes Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 The kit grille had the GSX logo molded into the grille so I opened it up and used my Molotow pen to touch up opening prior to installing photoetch grille pieces
