Koellefornia Kid Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 In late 2014, I found this resin kit ( Star Models I think?) of Bill Cushenberry´s El Matador on eBay and got it for a good price. Quite a good kit, but it needed some work. It had several bubbles and two of the bumperettes were missing. I completed the kit with a lot of parts from my parts box: two bumperettes of unknown origin, taillights and headlight lenses, a modified steering wheel, frame and chassis (remnants from my ´36 Ford roadster), Pegasus chrome reversed rims and tires. Many other parts were scratchbuilt: front grille, fender grilles, license plate and the dual exhaust system. Engine is a resin cast Nailhead from AMT´s ´40 Ford as well as the radiator (I cast them because I wanted to keep the Ford kit complete). Have a look: My collection of iconic Rods and Customs so far: Thanks for watching! What do you think?
Howard Cohen Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Very nice! I picked up a bad resin version (R&R) many years ago, more bubbles than resin, spent too many hours on it and finally gave up. Yours looks much better.
D. Battista Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 You did a nice job with it...! Cool car...!
DumpyDan Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 That is fantastic great looking build. Would love to get my hands on one myself.
Ich_Will Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 That’s a crazy looking front end! Very interesting.
Phildaupho Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 A very well done tribute done tribute to custom car and model car history
Mr. Metallic Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's still the R+R kit, purchased from Star Models. You did a nice job of bringing that rarely built resin kit to the finish line. Looks great
damodelguy az Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 very awesome recreation of a challenging resin kit. real nice lines and the parts you chooz to use were spot on. really clean job.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 One of my all time favorite customs. Really cool, nice job sir.
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 Thanks a lot, guys! Was a challenging build but I had a lot of fun with it! I´d love to build a model of Bill´s "Marquis" ( my personal favorite Cushenberry-Build). There´s a Marquis grille in the AMT grilles and bumpers parts pack and I have a ´56 Ford kit but I´m anxious to do that. That would be a real challenge Maybe some day...
PatW Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Superb! I've seen that on Star Models/R&R site. does it come with the 'glass'?
