Will have some pix in a few days but have three questions not having any sea legs.   For those familiar with this kit, what in the world are those two THINGS mounted on the bow that mounted on an incline/launcher.   Second, the barrels at the rear.  Are these supposed to be depth charges?  Third,  how in the world do I "coil" thread so it looks like rope laying neatly on the deck by the cleats.

Thanks.

Peace

I just happen to have that kit in stock.

You're correct...the instructions call out the inclined jobbydoos on the foredeck as "rockets", and the drums aft as "depth charges".

I've had best results coiling "rope" by very lightly gluing the rope end down, then carefully coiling it flat on the deck after lightly applying "white" glue (PVA). Any excess PVA can be carefully removed with a moist Q-tip before it dries.

Fabric stores usually have a good selection of thread that passes for rope quite well, in several diameters. Polyester thread has less fuzz.

I'd be hesitant about using thread for the handrails. The finest monofilament fishing line you can find would probably look more realistic.

The inclined launchers on the foredeck look like Hedgehogs. These are an anti submarine weapon. That would mesh nicely with the depth charges.

I would visit my local fly fishing shop and ask for some leader. It comes in several sizes. It will be smaller than the stuff you find at your regular fishing shop.

Thank you for the prompt replies.  I use brass wire for the handrails (and made new stanchions).  Thanks for the suggestions on the coiled rope.  Pix in a few days.  Enjoyable kit that turned out pretty well.  Enjoying these Linberg boat kits for a change of pace.  Just have to finish up a few little odds and ends and make a new/better stand).

Peace.

I didn't realize you were the same builder who did that fine looking transporter/rail dragster elsewhere.

It should be a treat to see what you get out of this Lindberg kit.  :D

Thanks Bill.

Yup, 'fraid it's the same old me.  I've moved to east Tennessee recently and discovered Ollies "good stuff cheap" stores.  They are dumping all sorts of Lindberg kits right now for 10-25 bucks.  I did one of their Robert E Lee riverboats (posted a month or so ago here) and picked up a couple more along with the shrimp boat and the Dodge L700 truck kits.

If you are anywhere near one of their stores, grab 'em while they got 'em.  I've got a 1/16 scale Chevy Bison semi I've been scratchbuilding from literal junk for 3 years and need to give it a rest as it is down to dotting I's and crossing T's.

Hopefully, these kits (along with writing fiction) will keep me going thru the winter.

Peace.

Lindberg USCG Patrol Boat.  Nice little kit.   Still working on a new stand, flags, and minor things.

Based on the hull length, it's about 1:81.5. I'll be using one with 1:87 HO stuff...close enough for background.

The rockets were used to throw lines to ships in distress. She wouldn't be carrying depth charges in the white hull/red stripe livery. Emergency buoys maybe, not depth charges.
