Last week my Amazon account got hacked and luckily I caught it before the purchases listed were billed to my credit card. I still had the bank cancel the card and issue me a new one. BUT! Try and cancel your Amazon account. It's impossible to do. Believe me. I've spend 5 days now trying to get my account closed. And nothing works. I've even received emails saying it is closed but when I check. It's still open. So I've resorted to not only canceling the credit card to that account. But also canceling the email address associated with it. I hope that is enough because they make it so you have no other options. I suggest that anyone who has an account with them to get rid of it.

They haven't closed my account so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Never even go to Amazon again.

There were also two apartment buildings that had their roofs taken off and a TJ Maxx that had their roof collapse during the same storm. There was a possible tornado in largely tornado-free Maryland. Sounds like "bad weather" to me.

Detest walmart.  Loathe amazon.  I want  mom and pop hobby shops back.  So it cost a few bucks more.  Friends were made, ideas shared, and discoveries made.  It wasn't all about me, now, and cheapest.

Dreaming and wishful thinking of a dinosaur I know but for now, still safe.

Peace

Do the standard stuff when your merchant account gets hacked --

  • Change your password
  • Turn on Two-step verification
  • Delete your stored credit card
  • Review your current credit reports.
  • Lock your credit reports, and put an alert on your account if you can. This prevents them from opening new accounts in your name.

Problem is they probably have your home address, which is an important piece of authentication information. Amazon is usually better than almost anyone about security. Chances are, they got in via your computer, or with information stored on it. I would run several different malware checks. Microsoft Defender is actually pretty good. Malware Bytes has its virtues too.

I have Life Lock for all my accounts and they are locked. It happened the same day I took my Mac Mini into the Apple store. I was doing and download from Apple when it crashed. They had to reinstall the newest OS onto it. But they do this all in the store front. to out back. And the place was mobbed. Someone might have been in the store with some sort of scanner or something because the hack happened that day. My thought anyhow. A lot of people were in the store having their Imac, iPads, phones, laptops fixed. Perfect place to get info from.

Different experiences as a customer...I use Apple products every day, been an Amazon customer for over 20 years--order from Amazon nearly every week, use Amazon streaming,, have had Verizon for my cell phone for the last 18 years.  Never had any problems.   I miss local hobby shops also, but times have changed.
