This is to represent a tractor we had here on the farm for many years. It is the AMT/Ertl "John Deere 4430" kit. This is not 100% accurate, because I didn't make all the alterations (mostly engine) to convert a 4430 to a 4040.

I did make some changes. The kit comes with a full glass cab, while ours just had a canopy, so that required some alteration. I changed the control levers to reflect the Powershift transmission ours had. Our tractor had a full rack of suitcase weights on the front, so I made those. New decals for "John Deere" and "4040".

I spent many hours with my butt in the seat of this thing, so now I'll have something to remember it by. Thanks for looking.

The rack of weights looks great, impressive that you made them. I also really like the weathering on the tires. Great work, thanks for sharing!

Thanks Greg! I did put an SMV on it, but not until after I took these pix. Our tractor never left the farm, so it didn't need one, but I put it on the model to cover up those two big holes in the back of the cab.

Very nice build!  I've got thousands of hours on the seat of a 4520!  Dad bought one of the first ones in 68 and I drove it all summer until I went of to the Air Force and planted my backside in the seat of a KC-135 for thousands of hours.  It had an Egging Cab and a hydraulically powered swamp cooler on top.  Huge improvement over the 830 we had before that with an umbrella.  I blame part of the hearing loss I have to driving these beasts for 10 hours a day all summer.  I still remember the tinnitus I had when I shut them down at the end of the day. It lasted for a good half an hour before I could hear again.  Good memories of my childhood!

Thanks, Pete!  I know what you mean about tinnitus. When I was a kid we had a 3020 with no cab, and that was nice. But my uncle had a 2510 with a tin cab and no A/C. That thing was more of an amplifier than protection. After a long day in that, my only response to a question was "Huh?".
