Ken Gilkeson Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 I have had this kit for several years, time to do something with it.
Russell C Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Ummm ... correct me if I'm wrong ... Revell of Germany took a monster shortcut and stuck a Marmon grille on a Peterbilt?
drinkone2 Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) I'm curious to see what route you go with this one Ken. This "Marmon" is right up there with the Rubber Duck ERTL kit as far as being no where close to the 1:1 trucks. Does it come with the Peterbilt grille too? Edited November 30, 2018 by drinkone2
Ken Gilkeson Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 yes Jim it has a peterbilt grill on the trees, it comes with a 3 piece hood and separate grill for the marmon. the chrome on the fenders is so heavy it has runs. I guess marmon had a knack of using peterbilt trucks. kinda funny they were both in Denton Texas. I suppose this could represent a late model before their closing.
CRUSADER2 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Looking forward to seeing this come together, I am currently using this kit as the donner chassis for my MARMON cabover, I was wondering if you know exactly which Cummins engine it is in the kit? must be from the early seventies at a guess (twin turbo ? ) I hav'nt been able to find any photo's of the real thing without the exact spec, anyway good luck with the build.
Force Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Well it's not the plating that's running, it's the clear undercoat that's sprayed on way too thick wich is quite a common problem on Revell AG kits, the shiny plating itself is aluminum vapour and is very thin. The Cummins engine in this and many other of REVELL AG trucks is a NTC 475 Twin Turbo from late 70's to mid 80's. Edited December 2, 2018 by Force
CRUSADER2 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Hi Hakan, thanks for the info, going to look it up straight away, sorry for nicking your thread Ken, maybe the info is useful to you too, but I suspect you already new which engine it was anyway.
Ken Gilkeson Posted December 2, 2018 Author Posted December 2, 2018 quite alright Geoffrey, I have got the cross members put in the frame rails.
olsbooks Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 That chrome/run issue is horrible. At least it is in capable hands to fix. I've considered building a Marmon using the ih 4300 or paystar cab since it seems closer to the real thing . Fyi There was a Marmon owners association at one time. Aths.org may have a lead or link but I haven't checked. Rare birds anymore with a cult like following it seems. Neat little operation with a very interesting history.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this!
Ken Gilkeson Posted December 5, 2018 Author Posted December 5, 2018 used liquid plummr industrial cleaner for chrome removal, works great and takes about a minute. most of the chassis parts will get painted and is about ready for paint. debating the rear fenders, not sure yet. back wheels will get painted with hubcaps.
Ken Gilkeson Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 thanx Dan. got some paint on the chassis, and starting to detail it.
Mopar - D Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Ken I like the color it brings out the details. I think you should put your frame on some jacks with it sitting in your shop.
mailman Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) too bad revell didn't buy frank gortsema's master and make the real thing , which i'm sure everybody knows is still available from aitm. always liked them , high quality hand built rigs. maybe all the 1/25 mechanics in ken's shop will fabricate a more realistic cab , lord knows they have all the tools. Sergey Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Oh, that old Revell wheels.... I hate them. Nice work, Ken! I like the colors.
Mopar - D Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Ken have you thought about using AITM’s resin cab that is what I have for mine when I get around to building it. It would look great on your frame you have here.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I like what you have so far Ken!! I always like your color selections!!
Mr mopar Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Did this ever get finished ? If I'm right Marmon never had air-ride Suspension .it was all springs ?
