I agree with Andy.  It does work, but not as well as the old standby purple stuff.  But it is cheaper and readily available at many corner convenience stores.

Hi,

I consider myself a strip master due to lack of experience and many f-ups.

My 3 Go2's are;

ELO - Easy Lift Off by Testors.

* Super Clean - Works far better then the other purple stuff.

91-99% Alcohol - Found at various drug stores.

* Correction, Purple Power sorta sux.

I believe these 3 are far superior to anything else I have tried.

I use fairy power spray, it seems to work on every type of paint I've tried it on. There are 2 types of it though and its the gel spray you want.

Hmm, interesting.

How does it work on enamel as I know that I'll screw that up someday?

enamel comes away in sheets so that you can almost peel it like a banana, acrylic sorta gums up then rubs off. You might find its sold under another brand name in the USA though. Also it can be poured down the toilet when it gets too dirty and it doesn't stink like oven cleaner. It comes in spray bottles so I spray it and sit it in a tub with the lid on and I reuse the run off

Really?

My experience has been just the opposite.

This would be the first time that I have ever heard that Purple Power works better than Super Clean.

But, to each his own.

Doh sorry you are correct. The Super Clean works far better, let me correct my post.  I've had both and got confused.

I initially thought that your post might have been a misstatement, but you never know. ;)

Everybody has their own experiences.

But I agree.

I have tried both, & Super Clean is much more efficient in my opinion.

Thanks Steve.

Actually not only was I disappointed with Purple Power but I came to loath it.  I used the rest of it to clean my bath tub and switched to Comet which was more effective.

I keep it around in case I need to remove something really easy.........like dust! :D

I've not tried super clean yet as I've always got the, I believe unmentioned, simple green handy and it works good for me....am I missing out?

Yes, you are.

Simple Green is also an inferior product to Super Clean.

But if it's working for you, there's no reason to change.

But I think you will find that it does not work well, if at all, for some tasks.

I have used Zep degreaser from Menards (yes it is purple) it also works.

I will say that sitting on a cold basement or garage floor in the winter it works slow, every brand I have tried. In the summer when it is above 75 they all work better. I have no air in my house so in the summer it is normally well over 75 in here.

I have radiant heat in my basement floor, so it works better for me in the winter than in summer! :)

So I did a non scientific study here in my house.  I had a tub of old degreaser in my basement that has a few different brands inside it. Zep brand, Super Clean and some Purple power.  It looks like chocolate milk mostly.

So I purchased some parts on Ebay that had some thick paint build up on them. Like 3 or 4 coats of brush paint. I had an idea of what they were  but not sure, because of the paint build up.  I take a small to go tub poor it full of NEW Purple Power  with many various small parts and a hood.  Some of these parts had chrome on them and it did not just fade away as it does with the good stuff. I left them sit overnight (all chrome gone)and scrubbed them and paint came off but it was work scrubbing them. So uncleaned parts back in for another 24 hour soak. Pulled them out and scrubbed them with paint still on them and a dash that had hard as a rock black paint on top still. Poured  the Purple Power down the drain and replaced it with the OLD mixed stuff and let parts sit for the next day.  When I pulled out the dash there was no black paint on the top of the dash it was gone everything else I did some hard scrubbing and they cleaned up well.  It does not remove glue after all.

So I will not use the Purple Power for paint stripping anymore as even new stuff does not work fast enough or at all on some.

Turns out the parts that I did not recognize were 63/64 Riviera heavily sanded and cut up body, heavily sanded hood, interior bucket  and dash  no front seats, I need these parts.  I only bid because there was a Wild Dream body in the pile with no paint.
