Sergey Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) Well, let's open new project in new year! I wanted to start it 10 years ago. I recently bought front bumper and 6,6 Duramax engine at Trailertrash Kustoms. Here is the bumper set. It has 2 variants of fog light lenses. With white fog lights Reverse side has some cavities, but nothing, that can't be fixed. Unfortunatelly bumper is too narrow, even for 1/25. It should be 96 mm, but it is only 89 mm. I will build 1/24. Here is the engine set. It has two variant of valve heads and 3 small cilindrical pieces in front. One is alternator (but I can't identify - which) and two others - I don't know. Two part pulley/belt set is tied by masking tape, so you don't mistake they relative position And here are billets for the frame It unused frame from Revell's Peterbilt Can Do wrecker. Now I'm not sure: if I use this frame and cut & fill all the brackets or use stright KFS or brass tube frame... Edited January 3, 2019 by Sergey
Rusty92 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Interesting build. Where will you source the Top Kick cab and front clip from?
mikemodeler Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Here's an example of a kit that could be offered in multiple forms, kinda like the upcoming Moebius 66 F100 series. Looking forward to seeing this one completed!
Rusty92 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) The one is definitely the alternator/generator correct. The other is probably the AC that sits in the middle of the drive system at the top near the intake. The last one... not sure. Could be a dual alternator set up. Unless it is a CP3 injection pump that is meant for high output applications. I will be following this build, Can't wait to see it come together! Jacob Edited January 3, 2019 by Rusty92 clarity
mustang1989 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Given what I've seen you do with other projects this outta be a fun one to watch.
Chevythunder85 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 If you have a brookfield chevy van or two, they can be cut down for the cab. Being the cab of the topkick is the same sheet metal as the full size chevy vans from 96 to when ever.

Thank you, Nicholas! I know that. Unfortunattely I don't have brookfield chevy van. And as I seen it's not cheep now. Thanks to every one for interes Edited January 5, 2019 by Sergey
Sergey Posted February 17, 2019 Author Posted February 17, 2019 I decided to ask here: I need brake set like this: which brake set (from Hiroboy range) should I use to reflect this? I've choose some: 1. https://www.hiroboy.com/124_CSD_Ultimate_Brake_System_PE_and_Resin--product--10793.html 2. https://www.hiroboy.com/124_Ferrari_F12_Berlinetta_Brake_System_Suspension_Setup_Kit_Low--product--5685.html 3. https://www.hiroboy.com/124_AP_Racing_CP9660_Brake_System_ResinPEDecals--product--12762.html 4. https://www.hiroboy.com/124_AP_Racing_CP9440_Brake_System_ResinPEDecals--product--12761.html 5. https://www.hiroboy.com/125_Corvette_C6_ZR1Z28_Brake_Discs_and_Calipers_Set_Revell--product--11106.html Can anyone tell me the diametr of brakes in links: 1, 3, 4?
spencer1984 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I don't know for certain, but looking at that front bumper I think it may be a recast of the one from Leader Class Ironhide. I wonder if you can use/modify other parts from that?
blubaja Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 There was a newer model year Express/Savannah van from highway 61. But this one would work also, as you're going to have to scratchbuild the hood. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F283365657628 But spencer is right. You could probably use the transformer toy, and rework that into something more detailed.
Rob Hall Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Takara Tomy is doing an Ironhide (3 variations) not sure of the scale though.. https://hlj.com/transformers-studio-series-ss-15-ironhide-tkt61583
Sergey Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Thank you, my friends! I'll try to get those toys, but it seems it's not easy to make detail 1:24 scale model, using them or sheet styrene anyway...

Modding him into a full detail truck wouldn't be easy, but since the body is all plastic it's not impossible, either.
redneckrigger Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 On eBay now..........................https://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Dark-of-the-Moon-Ironhide-Leader-DOTM/253600461219?hash=item3b0bc3f1a3:g:vCkAAOSwoT1a60Gc:rk:18:pf:0
Sergey Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 For now - some progres. A little work with frame spars. I've lived small rear spring bracket rudiments and made a plate from brass. Front bracket of rear spring is made of Evergreen profile. Later I've complicated brass part. Now I've got brake discs. If someone need dimensios - here are they: Here I started to make crossmembers and second of rear springs. All I left to do are - rest of springs, suit some differentials and I ready for cab...

Can you give me the width and the hight of just a cab of this toy? Edited March 14, 2019 by Sergey
spencer1984 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 I do, but it's currently boxed up in storage. I'll see if I can get it dug out this weekend.

Thanks in advance. One more question: Can anyone point me to DIMENSIONS OF 1998 SILVERADO DUALIE BED 8FT? Edited March 14, 2019 by Sergey
Sergey Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) Let's continue! Rear springs Front springs and brackets Dry fit. Suspension parts are waiting for further work and some more parts. Searching for axles in my boxes, gave me this. Black parts are from Meng's Ford 1/24, red - are from GMC Sonoma 1/20. As you can see on photos above - rear axle should be square & rear part of reduction gear should be like Sonoma has. Front axle reduction gear looks similar to GMC, but shifted wrong side. I shoul turn the axle 180 degrees, cutting off springs. Edited July 31, 2019 by Sergey
LouO Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) following closely and liking what I see so far (coils & leaf springs on same axle is a bit odd though) Edited August 3, 2019 by LouO

Sergey Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 Once again: Can anyone help me with DIMENSIONS OF 1999 SILVERADO DUALIE BED 8FT? I need the width of wheel arches to determine the width of rear axle now.
SSNJim Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 I would check the GM Heritage Center. They have a lot of detailed information on almost all GM models, and should be the first stop for model reference: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html
