Jack L Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 opinion on scale and kit. Side by side with AMT body and wheel base are the same
Ralph Henderson Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 (edited) The Sunny kit is basically the old AMT 289 Cobra with a new body. It is 1/25th scale. It has the AMT 289 with different headers. A little kitbashing with a good big block and some better wheels and tires does give a fairly good representation of a 427 in 1/25th scale, but the kit retains the leaf spring suspension. It is a fairly nice 427 style body though.. If you do a search on the forum for "Sunny 427 Cobra" there are a few builds. Edited February 18, 2019 by Ralph Henderson
MrObsessive Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 The problem I've had with the Sunny kit is that to me, it more represents an FIA car and not the 427 body. 427's were much 'beefier' looking than the 260/289 cars as they had bulgier fenders and of course a different frame and suspension. If you want to build an FIA car that Sunny one would not be a bad start.
MrObsessive Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Some quick pics I dug up.......... Sunny "427" Cobra model FIA Cobra..... 427 Cobra....... The Sunny kit kinda splits the difference between the two, but IMO it's not an actual 427.
Ralph Henderson Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 to build an FIA you need to re-shape the grille. The Sunny doesn't look bad if it's lowered, but Bill's right. it's definitely a 427 "TYPE" body on a 289 chassis. But it is the only 1/25th scale approximation out there..
afx Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 I like the Sunny/Minicraft/Academy Cobra. I've buit it both as a 427: And a FIA Roadster
afx Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 The kit out of the box most closely replicates an AC Ace 289 (427 body with a 289 engine).
250 Testa Rossa Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I'm currently looking for a Sunny 427 kit.
cobraman Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Here is a comparison of the two kits . AMT is yellow . Sunny is the blue one .
vamach1 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Stock it builds up to a 289 replica with a 427 body and a 1950's Ace chassis with small block Ford power. So a hybrid Cobra.
250 Testa Rossa Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I want one to do CSX2259, which was the first of five FIA cars built.

Maxx, if you do an FIA car from the Academy issue I may be able to give you the nose of an AMT kit to graft onto the Academy body. JC, that would work wouldn't it?

I went a different route choosing to fill and modify the Sunny/Academy/Minicraft body.
