Greg Myers Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 That Gasser on the front cover looks a lot like the original AMT gasser kit. What was the first issue of that kit? Was it the double kit with the '32 Sedan ? Which came first, the Revell S,W& C, or the AMT kit ?
Deuces Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Might have been the Revell kit.... Then again... I'm no expert...??
Mark Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Revell's kit came first ('63). I'm pretty certain AMT's double kit was first issued in '64. There's a photo out there of John Mazmanian's Willys in front of the AMT offices in Michigan. It's been said that AMT originally planned its Willys as a replica of the Mazmanian car. The Willys in the AMT double kit is nothing like that car, though.
Mr mopar Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Was the 32' ever issued by it self ? or was it made into something different ?
Mark Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 The body from the '32 sedan was issued once in the mid-Seventies as a stock/street rod kit. The interior, chassis, fenders, etc. from the Phaeton kit were used in that kit.
tim boyd Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 The AMT Willys/Deuce Sedan Custom double kit was advertised very late in 1963 so from that we could presume it hit the streets around December 1963 or very early in 1964.....TIM
