fiatboy Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Has anyone tried this method? And if so, what brand do you recommend, the adhesive that is? Thanks
stitchdup Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Spray glue is kinda hard to get to lay smooth, I tried it and it looked lumpy when the flocking went on, and wasn't easy to remove. I stick with enamel paint in a colour close to the flock colour
Daddy Mack Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive is the bomb. It'll go on thin if you just do 1 pass. Shake it up first and invert & clear the nozzle when done. https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/682505O/3mtm-sprayable-adhesives.pdf
DiscoRover007 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Yes I use this method. It usually takes two coats. Spray, then flock, empty the tub and inspect, then spray again and flock once more. Any errors after that can be patched with the white glue method. The spray adhesive works really well to pack as much of the material as possible. It looks pretty realistic. Granted you need to make sure you mask the areas you don't want sprayed well.
Dave G. Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Next time I flock something I'm going to try Pledge floor care, basically Future. I used to use enamel but I've been on an 18 month quest of switching mostly to acrylics. After 60 years of stink paints I'm coming to embrace the low toxic approach..

The guy on the scale modeling channel uses pledge. I might try it on a spare piece and see how it looks. My concern there is the gloss shining through the flocking
crazyjim Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I tried Pledge a couple of weeks ago and wasn't impressed. Planning on staying with Elmer's.

John Pol Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I try Pledge with embrossing powder and it work great
peteski Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Yes, it seems that embossing powder is the "new flocking". From what I read here on the forum, it results in more realistic looking carpeting.
