ewetwo Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 (edited) Is this where you would trade die cast cars? I have a few I'd like to get rid of. Edited April 1, 2019 by ewetwo
ewetwo Posted April 1, 2019 Author Posted April 1, 2019 (edited) Six Signature. And a few Johnny Lightning. Some HO scale. Off brands. Never played with. Is this where I could post them to trade here? Edited April 1, 2019 by ewetwo
Dave Van Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Only real high end DC bring any money. I put a bunch of 1/24 die cast out at a yard sale for $3....none sold but I sold 99% of the other stuff. I did give away Hot Wheels to kids ...
ewetwo Posted April 1, 2019 Author Posted April 1, 2019 (edited) I just checked Ebay and you are right. Zero. They don't sell. I'll try Facebook Marketplace to see if I can get rid of them for something. If not then I'll leave them in the basement. Edited April 1, 2019 by ewetwo

I put 3 of those Signature 1/32 scale diecasts on eBay in 2017: the '39 Lincoln convert, '41 Plymouth, and '55 Packard Caribbean. No bids, zip, zilch. Tried again in June 2018. The minimum bid was $4.99 each, and that's exactly what they sold for. One bidder bought all 3. I got those die-casts years ago at a Wal-Mart close-out sale. Probably for $4.99 each... It's a shame that they get no respect. As your photos show, those Signature die-casts are little jewels. They have better details than many 1/25 die-casts. Separate door handles, nice sharp paint jobs and trim. The Caribbean has engine-turned trim in the interior. The '39 Lincoln came with an optional up-top or boot. That '41 Plymouth 4-door would be great re-painted Olive Drab, as a WWII staff car. And they were all sold in very nice little clear plastic display cases. No, I wouldn't be interested in any of yours. Still trying to sell some of mine.
randyc Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Seems like we have all bought stuff along the way that ends up being worth a fraction of what we paid. The worst would have to be folks that bought into the Franklin and Danbury Mint stuff. I couldn't afford them back when they were released, but am buying them now for pennies on the dollar. But I also have years of collecting and am trying to sell stuff off now. I have had to learn that if it's worth $5 to someone, that is $5 I didn't have yesterday. And through selling quantity, I was able to buy a new riding mower this year. And am still selling. Just have to let it go. I have run out of space literally. Can't display it all. Can't build it all. But I can sell a LOT of it and just take what I can get. I put a LOT of my stuff on ebay at BIN or best offer and just let it sit til someone buys. I have a really nice 93, 94? Mustang on there that has been there for months.. I have no idea why it won;t sell. Priced in line with everything else I have sold. You can't predict what will happen on ebay. those Signature models are tempting, BUT I really don't need ANOTHER scale collection.

I'm going to try Facebook Marketplace to see how that goes thinking if someone was close enough to pick them up. They might sell. I've never delved into Ebay as I know people who have and they've gotten burnt. Honest people burnt by dishonest buyers. I was thinking about putting some old kits I have. 61 and 62 Lincolns. 67,68,69 Chevys, on ebay as they seem to bring good money. Edited April 4, 2019 by ewetwo
randyc Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Any time you have a "customer", if you do it long enough, you will get a bad one. I've had them. And will again I'm sure. But you do your best even with them and it will work out most of the time. I've had worse luck with teh FB Marketplace. Ebay works best for me - been using it since the 90s. But a lot of ppl use FB, so it works for them. Good luck either way you go. The kits you listed would go well here probably. IDK. Good luck with it.
ewetwo Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Hey Randy. I'm finding Facebook Marketplace is as crazy as Craig's list. I might just leave them in the basement and let someone else worry about them when I'm gone.LOL. I had an experience with Ebay from a bad seller. I had purchased the same item twice over the years. Dishwasher racks. The first one was just as described. New in the box. 2 years later I had to replace it as my water is horrible and it was getting rusty. So I buy another from the same seller. When I got it, I opened the box and found a broken wheel. Several cuts into the vinyl. The sides were bowed in. So I complained to them and ended up having PayPal step in. Their responses were I did the damage myself because I didn't want it after I bought it. Nonsense. PayPal got all my money back. Never bought from them again. Now to their defense they might not have known what was in the box as my sister has been in their store in Syracuse and they get pallets of items at auctions that were returned items.
randyc Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Ah ok. Got ya. I've only had one bad experience as a buyer and ebay took care of it for me when the seller wouldn't reply. A buddy had a bad deal with a seller and they have disappeared from ebay. They were selling Frnklin Mint cars as perfect when they weren't. They were buying low, hiding issues and selling as perfect - withthe caveat that a lady was selling for her husband who was in hospital with cancer. Apparently thought they could play on people's sympathy and no one would question them. And my buddy almost went along with that. Til we found the original listing from a couple weeks earlier. If you try flipping by buying on ebay and flipping it, it is too easy to find the original listing, esp on something with a serial number. Sorry you had a bad experience.
kilrathy10 Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 (edited) I live near Houston, and we have a lot of flea markets, "swap meets", and such that have a few sellers at them... You might try that, if there any in your area... Or model contests are a very good way to get rid of stuff... I bought a couple of tables at a mode contest years ago... I didn't even have time to set up, before a guy approached me and bought me out... Basically for about 20 cents on the dollar, but I sold EVERYTHING!!!! Clearing out room for more models... But many people come just for that purpose... Just to buy models... So... You might check out the model contests.... They are largely plastic model contests, but that doesn't matter... A table costs about $30 or something, and you can get rid of a lot.... Especially, if you price stuff below what they're "worth".... Because, really... They're only worth what you can get for them.... And beware of the 1 in ONLY such and such thousand... It may be world wide, but that means there's still a couple thousand of them to be had.... Definitely, a good deal in there, somewhere.... Edited April 13, 2019 by kilrathy10
ewetwo Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 I might do that. I do have a person who contacted me from Facebook Market place that has shown he's an honest buyer willing to pay me before I mail them. So I'm dealing with him. I'm not going to make any money. I'm aware of that. But better than sitting in the basement packed away. :-)
