fivesuns Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 A little backstory...My dad drove for Memphis Furniture Company for years before they went out of business in 1989 I believe. Dad passed away about 4 years ago. A while back I went up to Tennessee to visit my Mom who is 87 years old. She asked me how I was doing with my modeling and in the course of the conversation she mentioned she always wanted to build a semi truck model. So I decided to build a tribute truck to my Dad and give it to my Mom. He drove a GMC Astro mostly and also an International 4070 according to my brother who is a retired trucker and knows these things. We have no pictures of his trucks, the only thing I had to go by is the patch from the back of his jacket and my memory. So anyhow, it is not perfect, but I think Mom will be pleased. I am giving it to her later this week.
towman1271 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 I love tribute builds. I must say I think it turned out amazing, especially for your first truck build. I'm sure Mom will love it and Dad is smiling down on it. Looks great

Hmann68 Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Beautiful!! Nice work and a nice tribute to your father!
fivesuns Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Thank you. I am driving up today to give it to Mom. BTW The Tennessee Traveler was my Dad's CB handle. Now I have the urge to build another big rig. Maybe a conventional Peterbuilt for my brother (retired trucker) who is in a nursing home in Missouri. I believe that was his favorite ride.
CRUSADER2 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Nice work and a nice tribute to your dad, looks fine for your first big rig build, I would have been over the moon if my first truck had come out any where near as good as yours, well done!!!
fivesuns Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Thanks guys. I gave it to Mom....She cried. My two sisters cried. She has placed it on a shelf where it will be the first thing she sees when she wakes up in the mornings. I am so glad I built it. hl
