How accurate are the old factory color chip sheets?  I know colors can change over time but were these accurate to the actual paint when new?

They should have been accurate.

I believe that the actual "paint chip" charts, were just that......paint chips.

The originals are actually paint.

But, depending on the age and condition of the chart, the colors may not be accurate anymore.

Yep,

At least from Mopar they were very accurate

Steve makes a GOOD point . I was in the auto collision business and the ones that like the Ditzler book , they're mostly accurate

For the most part, the colour chips are accurate. ...But, there are sometimes more than a few variances in the actual paint colour itself. Some modern colours can have upwards of a dozen variances of a single colour standard. The colour standard is what the chips are supposed to match...
