mistermodel Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 I'd like to add a few tid bits. The autocars come with turbo parts ,so by kit bashing the turbo with the non turbo intake manifold you would have a 335.I like horsepower so I call the nta370 an nta 420.Those nta's came in 370 up to 420 in 10 horsepower increments .You can turn the cruiseliners 300 into a 315 hp 300+ by painting it a redish copper colour. For a period of time Euclid owned westernstar.During that era engines were Euclid green.

Force Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Just a note regarding Caterpillar. I read somewhere that Caterpillar changed the color from Old Caterpillar Yellow, also known as Hi-Way Yellow, to New Cat Yellow on their machines in June 1979 and that could be the case with the engines too. So if that's correct the engines would be Cat Hi-Way Yellow from January 1932 until June 1979, after June 1979 New Cat Yellow. Kenworth had white engines through 1975 and Peterbilt through 1984, after that manufacurer colors, there are some exceptions to the rule where you can see engine manufacturer color before and white engines after thos dates.
CRUSADER2 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 This is a really usefull list when looking for donner kits for future conversion projects, I come back to it quite often when planning future builds (when I can remember where it is) I was thinking though maybe it would be possible to add all the different resin after market engine's that are available, I know of quite a few but there must be a lot more? Just an idea!

Force Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 (edited) Earlier in this thread I have listed the resin engines I know of but if anything is missing and not listed please add them to this thread. Unfortunately it's not possible to edit old posts any longer so I can't update the engine and color lists I did earlier with new information as I get it without doing a completely new list in a reply to this thread. Dave72 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 This is a fantastic thread! Especially for people like myself that like to build trucks and big rigs, but just not that often. Thanks guys for putting this together.
Force Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 (edited) This list is a combination och work and research from several contributors here on the forum and it has been fun to put together...a labour of love so to say. So if this topic is useful to someone at least I am glad and I think that goes for the other contributors as well. Edited January 3, 2021 by Force

1st 700 Quad Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 (edited) You can now add the AMT Parts Pack Turbine truck engine to the list. A LOT easier to get than the original.... Steve Edited December 17, 2021 by 1st 700 Quad
carsntrucks4you Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 You can add Strato Models Detroit Diesel 6V12 Tatra V12
Force Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 (edited) Well I can't add anything to the list as the edit function doesn't work after a while. The downside with Strato Models is that the engines and other stuff are not available all the time and when the things are available they sell out very quickly...Pavel Behensky do very nice products tho'. I was able to get a couple of wheel sets from him last week, they sold out in a few hours and I expect the same will be for his upcoming Kenworth 523, 524 or 525, the model number is depending on what suspension he will do for it. Rbray47 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Very helpful topic. Is there a transmission list somewhere?

I haven't dived into that yet but here are some. Most of the US truck kits have Eaton-Fuller transmissions regardless of manufacturer. Here are some exceptions. The AMT kenworth W925 has a Dana-Spicer main and auxillary transmissions, maybe a 5 and 4 or 6 and 4, so it's a twin stick The AMT Kenworth W900 Alaskan Hauler has a Dana-Spicer 16 speed The AMT Kenworth K100 Aerodyne and the Tyrone Malone Bandag Bandit and Super Boss has Allison Automatics The AMT Mack trucks has Mack transmissions Edited July 14, 2024 by Force
irishtrek Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Didn't see which Detroit engine AMT American LaFrance fire rigs come with. Did I miss it?? Also, the Trumpeter ALF Eagle has a molded in transmission and engine, curious as to what make they are.
Jim B Posted April 18 Posted April 18 The AMT Americn-0LaFrance kits come with a Detroit Diesel 8V71. Not sure what the Trumpeter kit's engine is supposed to be. Maybe a Detroit Diesel Series60?
irishtrek Posted April 19 Posted April 19 The oil pan is in my opinion oversized and the transmission is rounded. Got an engine from a REVELL snap together I'm thinking about putting in there along with the radiator but going to have to modify the chassis if I ever get around to it.

Got an engine from a REVELL snap together I'm thinking about putting in there along with the radiator but going to have to modify the chassis if I ever get around to it. The AMT American LaFrance fire trucks has a Detroit Diesel 8V-71 and it looks like a Fuller transmission, I have no clue what speed it is, 9-10-13... The Trumpeter kit has no engine but the transmission looks like a Allison Automatic, not that uncommon in fire trucks. Keep in mind that the engine in the Revell snap kits is a Cat 3406A, it came 1973 and was a pre-combustion engine at first but later direct injection, it was replaced with the 3406B 1987, so it's quite old. The Revell snap kit 3406A engines doesn't have a aftercooler, just a plain intake manifold so it's a lower power engine, but the A model was available up to 425 hp and they had the aftercooler wich was water-to-air like the Cummins aftercoolers. The 3406B evolved to the C model 1993 wich was partly electronic and the latest version of the 3406 is the fully electronic E model from 1998 and after that the C15 took it's place in 1999-2000, Caterpillar left the truck market in 2008 and concentrated on construction equipment, marine and diesel generators. The difference between the A and B/C models is where the diesel injection pump is located, in the middle of the drivers side of the block lengthwise for the A model and near the front cover on the same side for the B/C model and the E model has no injection pump at all as it's fully electronic and the E model has 3 valve covers and looks more like a C15 than the B/C models but they are not of the same family.
