landman Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Next one will be this. A peek around the box suggests I will need the help of my spare '41.
Eric Macleod Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I think I have seen that green one somewhere before!

landman Posted May 22, 2019 Author Posted May 22, 2019 While some of the pre-assemblies are curing I looked at two issues. the improbable headlight lenses will be easily replaced with some PE units. The wheels will be a different story. the kit's wheels have no features so I thought I'd use the 41's. There is a HUGE difference in size. Will have to think about this.
RichCostello Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Good luck, I think that 48 might be the worst kit I've ever seen.
Eric Macleod Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 As I recall, yes, you were going to do the '48 and we swapped for a '40 AMT Ford Coupe I plan to uae as a donor for a '40 Ford woody. In thought on wheels. You could build the hubcaps using buttons with the '41 hubcaps for centers. They would say Lincoln that way. Not 100% accurate, but a lot better than what you have. Just an idea.Â
Richard Bartrop Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 As I recall, the spare tire on the Lindberg kit has a reasonable looking hubcap, so I suppose you could make a cast of that.

Eric, and Richard, now there is food for thought. thank you for the suggestions.
landman Posted May 22, 2019 Author Posted May 22, 2019 The difference in wheels likely comes from the difference in scale, however I wouldn't have expected it to be as much.
Anglia105E Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 The 1:25 Lindberg kit of the '48 Lincoln Continental looks to be quite a challenge for you Pat, but at least with the '41 car available you do have a few options. Although I am not familiar with these particular kits, I would consider the suggestion to use the spare wheel hub cap from the '48 Lindberg and make a cast seems to be a good option. Out of all the kit manufacturers I would say that Lindberg is the one brand that I haven't built a model from..... maybe I should have a go? Did Lindberg ever do a Rolls-Royce? David

David I think it is a challenge for most everybody. the body is in about 12 different pieces. It assembles around the chassis so give some challenges just in sequencing the painting. And from what I have read here about it appears to be "off" in certain proportions. But yes the spare hubcap looks way better. Now again , do I cast the whole thing and cut out the tire part (4 times) or do I separate the kit item with the intent of rejoining them after?

I did some measurin' & figgurin". The real cars have 16 and 15 inch wheels respectively. Which means 31" and 27.6" diameters. The 41 tire is 32.4 mm which in 1/24 works out to 30.5 inches. In 1/25 it represents 31.8". The 48's tire is 27.5 mm which in 1/25 represents 27". So the scale added to the different size it what amplfies  the difference. So we'll have to play it by ear and hope it looks OK. Failing that, there's always mag wheels. Edited May 22, 2019 by landman
geemoney Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 the QUEEN of the Classics! I jus sold my dads 47 coupe... SAD you are inspiring me to finish one of my lincolns go! Â
sjordan2 Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 This Lindbergh kit is a reboxed Pyro. I built the Pyro decades ago, and it was a real challenge;  as I recall, the original didn’t have chromed parts. Good luck.
landman Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 Decided to use the '41 wheels anyway. Enlarged the wheel openings a bit. Â
landman Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 A short swim in the purple pond restored some whiteness to the whitewalls.
landman Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 The wheels are cleaned up and back together. Had to make a new hub for one.
landman Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Masked and painted the rockshield on the rear fenders. Completed the dash. Started foiling. Those larger wheels might turnout all right anyway.
landman Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 So much for Duplicolor's "acrylic" clear being acrylic. It acts a lot more like a lacquer.
landman Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 I tried different clears on different parts. There is some wrinkling on top of the trunk too. At least, at this stage, I can wet sand & recoat.
