HomerS Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 (edited) Things got ugly Monday night as the area took a direct hit from several tornadoes including at least two that have been classified as EF3. I let the dogs out before going to bed and being almost 50 miles from ground zero, the lightening show looked the finale in the original Ghostbusters. Talking to a co-worker this morning who lives in the area of the storms said it went on for 45 minutes. Amazingly only one person died in the storms. State Patrol closed down I-75 for Dayton to use snow plows to remove the debris from the highway. Edited May 29, 2019 by HomerS
Dave Van Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I checked in with all folks I know in the area.....all good thank God!
Zoom Zoom Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 My sister luckily escaped w/o damage and power only flickered briefly, but she's only 2-3 blocks north of the devastation in the Trotwood area, even some major tree damage on the south end of her street. She had no idea how bad it was, I told her last night after midnight after seeing news and looking at Google Maps traffic data which pretty clearly shows the path of destruction from Brookville through Beaver Creek. She did say she could hear sirens in the distance and had a second tornado warning while we were messaging just after midnight. From pics/videos I've seen, areas I'm familiar with will look a lot different next time I visit.
MeatMan Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Yeah, I have a brother down there. I gotta check on him now! Glad you guys are okay.
ranma Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 (edited) Celina which is 24 miles south of were I live also was hit with a EF3 Tornado. 7 people hurt, and one dead when a car was tossed into his house. I used to live in the area where the Tornado struck back in 2005-2008.. My youngest sister lives in Celina, while my younger brother work's there. He was called into work just after it it happened. Police wasn't allowing anyone in or out. But they called the care center where he works , and they allowed him through to get there . Last year A tornado wiped out a dollar general store , and damaged a strip mall. A few years before that a Tornado destroyed an Audi's grocery store. Earlier this moth the city had bad flooding from the lake. Edited May 29, 2019 by ranma
misterNNL Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 This geographic area in west central Ohio is known as of As the Great Miami Valley. I mention that because the national weather service has confirmed that we had 13 tornados In the Miami Valley on memorial day weekend. Normally the entire state has 19 per year,so far there have been 34.
Rob Hall Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 Wow.... that part of Ohio does have a long history of tornados, unfortunately. I've read about ones in the early 70s that were pretty bad. The parts of Ohio I've lived in (Jefferson County, Tuscarawas County, Portage County, Cuyahoga County) generally don't seem to have tornados, they always seem to be to concentrated in the central and western parts of the state...had a lot of rain here the last few days.
thatz4u Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 The week before a tornado hit East of where I'm at, came and went so fast that the siren didn't sound..
misterNNL Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Dayton news channel 7 news reported yesterday that Dayton' s solid waste disposal site received 3,100 tons of storm debris material in one day that was removed from damaged properties.
Snake45 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I heard there was some damage to part of the roof of the USAF Museum.
misterNNL Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 I have a favorite says that goes"bad news for one person is almost always good news for someone else".Disasters like these are always terrible with lives destroyed or tragically ended. Today's Dayton news reported that every body shop in the area is extremely busy which means that their suppliers are selling them lots of replacement body panels, paint and glass. Someone who sells those gjant wooden power poles has sold nearly 1,000 of them here. If you think about it a little bit maybe there is light at the end of this tunnel that Isn't on the front if a train.
