Scale-Master Posted January 30, 2023 Author Posted January 30, 2023 It will not be a Morgan... I made the engine cover latch handles. Machined each as a single piece. 1
cobraman Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Boy your detail is second to none ! What a great looking model. 1

LaughingIndian Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 What a great build! I got me through the pandemic ? … just about 2
Scale-Master Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 These are the latch handles for the front hood section. Different design for a different application. There are some people who assume that when parts are machined they just come out looking like they can be used as is. In some cases they can be, but in many cases some or a lot of hand finishing is needed, as in these latch handles. This is what these parts looked like after machining but before the hand finishing. The difference is the hand work. 2
Scale-Master Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 While there is a heavy screen built into the grille opening in the body, I added this fine stone guard screen too. The machined petcock has been installed, and I made a mask and stenciled LOLA onto the screen. A couple more fittings were machined and installed in this area as well. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 This is mind boggling, surreal, unbelievable stuff mr. Jones! Thank you for sharing. OK, gotta go back to my little styrene & putty project... 1
Scale-Master Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Tow hook; machined aluminum. The lock nut is a separate piece. (Sorry for the poor photos, gotta work on it when I have time…) Anodized red. Installed. 2 1
Scale-Master Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 After I lettered the spare I was really wishing these were Avon or Toyo or some other shorter name brand tire… Those outlines make for a tedious time too. I tried the sort of new Tamiya LP-4 Flat White lacquer and found it to be quite workable. 2
Scale-Master Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) I dirtied up the bottom a little bit more. Edited February 13, 2023 by Scale-Master 2
Big John Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Road grime and wooden rub strips... Brilliant! 1
Scale-Master Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 Lots of incremental progress spread out over a couple weeks; can't rush at this point. The engine cover is installed, hopefully for the final time and the electrical loom has been run to the rear lights. The latches for the front clip are on as are the mirrors and fuel & coolant filler caps. The windshield has been set in and sealed (only took 15 hours…) and several more detail decals were made and applied. Too bad the weather is so nasty and I can't shoot it outside, or in the sun… 1
Anglia105E Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Mark . . . I remember you starting this project at the beginning of 2019, and now you have 36 pages of build history. What an achievement ! I have met a professional scale model builder who lives local to me, but you sir are of a rare breed of superhuman, if you don't mind me saying so. This incredible level of detail that goes into your models, and especially this Lola T-70, shows us just what can be done when you really understand every single component of such a fine piece of automotive engineering. I don't believe that you can put a price on a model like this . . . All the man hours, the materials, the research and the absolute care with which you have assembled the model car, leaves me somewhat speechless . . . Thank you for posting the detail of the whole project. David 1
Pete J. Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 (edited) Mark, looks like it is almost road worthy! Great build. If that doesn't take GSL, someone has a 6" driver who runs out, jumps in the car and drives off! Edited February 26, 2023 by Pete J. 1
