What era Halibrand wheels ?

Starting to build some vintage style Model A's , T's and Deuces. I see a lot with Halibrand wheels . I want to keep mine as correct to the 30's - 50's era. I am thinking Halibrand came much later, maybe sometime in the 60"s . Any info appreciated.

Ted Halibrand first produced his magnesium wheels for Indy cars in 1946. So, you can go forward from that date.

As Joe said, Halibrand started making alloy sprint and Indy car wheels in 1946. Other wheels and the famous quick-change rear-end center sections followed. As the early wheels were real race-car parts, pretty much only real racers and the well-heeled amateurs were running them in the beginning.

IIRC, the first design had no slots, and had ribs on the backside. People were running these on hot rods by 1950, definitely. People sometimes mounted them backwards with the ribs showing.

Tony Nancy's 22Jr roadster ran them reversed on the front.

And the general design followed through and showed up again on the very special Halibrands on Micky Thompson's Challenger I. Similar wheels to those below are in the old AMT double-dragster kit, and the original Monogram hot-rod kit.

My current project has a Flatty with a SCOT  Blower, Ardun heads and a Harman-Collins magneto. This one is a "A" roadster with a track nose. I have Artillery wheels on it now, but was trying to plan my next project,  I like  the look of the Halibrands but want to keep it as era correct as I can

The 5-slot "kidney-beans" were intro'd in 1955.

Any interest in some E/T Dragmaster I just finished the mold for them. I can also cast them with an aluminum finish. Gonna try an cast the tires eventually.

The AMT '28 Ford sedan, and early issues of the MPC '28 Ford roadster pickup and woody wagon (derived from the sedan kit) have a set of the early solid Halibrand wheels.  They are on the small side so they won't fit some newer tires.  They are probably best used with the tires from the Ford kits.
