bykr Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 When painting resin parts are there any special prep steps needed as I'm having an issue with the paint(enamel) not adhering well. On some parts after allowing adequate dry time the paint is easily removed if touched.
gman Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 You want to use something caustic to remove any and all mold release that remains on the resin parts. Westley's Bleche Wite tire cleaner used to be good for that, but I believe the company that bought them out changed the formula. Washing your parts with isopropyl alcohol and scrubbing with a strong dish soap should get the mold release agent off.
espo Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 In addition to gman's information you might want to use an automotive type etching primer before going to your finish paint color.
oldcarfan Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 I've tried Westley's and it worked well. The last couple I built, I scrubbed them in Dawn with a toothbrush and then wiped them down with automotive paint prep grease and wax remover and that worked. Not sure how safe it is on resin, but I didn't have any trouble.
