Hotrod 97 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 This is my build for the 50 Years of Mach 1 CBP. It’s going to be a ‘69 Mach 1 with a bunch of parts from the ‘10 Shelby. Hopefully the only things needed from the Mach 1 are the body, chassis, and interior pan.

Hotrod 97 Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Did some test fitting - it appears that the chassis and interior pan from the Shelby will fit under the Mach 1 with some modification. The wheelbase is almost identical, but the chassis is just a little too wide. The interior pans are pretty close, too.

Hotrod 97 Posted June 30, 2019 Author Posted June 30, 2019 Alright, time to get back to this. I kinda changed my plans a bit. I’m going to use the chassis and interior from the Mach 1, but pretty much everything else will be from the Shelby. Here is everything I’ll be using from the Mach 1.
Hotrod 97 Posted June 30, 2019 Author Posted June 30, 2019 Here’s everything I’m going to use from the Shelby.
Hotrod 97 Posted June 30, 2019 Author Posted June 30, 2019 I found a nice set of rims from a '68 Shelby 3-in-1 in my parts box. They fit the tires from the Mach 1 perfectly.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 9, 2019 Author Posted July 9, 2019 I got the engine block assembled and changed my plans (again) on the chassis. I'm going to cut the front of the frame (from the firewall forward) off the Shelby, and modify it to fit the Mach 1 chassis. This should be the last time I change the build plans...

Hotrod 97 Posted July 10, 2019 Author Posted July 10, 2019 Got the engine block and oil pan in primer.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 Sanded out the "orange peel" in the primer. Before: After: Next step is to figure out how to make the front of the Shelby frame fit onto the Mach 1 chassis.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 My greatest apologies for all who were following this build. I am still very new to modifying, fabricating, and scratch building model car parts. At this point in time, modifying the Shelby to work with the Mach 1 is beyond my current ability. It will happen someday, I just would like to have a bit more experience before I try to modify a not-so-common kit (the Mach 1). So, with that being said, I will build this as my 1:1 scale dream car - a stock 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428CJ in Acapulco Blue. Again, apologies for completely changing the build plans this late through the build.
Superbird McMonte Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 That happens a lot. That is why I have so many started projects in boxes. At least you’re going forward!?
