Jim B Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 (edited) Back in the 1980s I had the TCR Rat Trap racing set. The set came with a yellow & orange Mustang (#12), a red, white & blue Pinto (#77) and a blue & yellow Mustang (#55) jam car. My favorite car was the Pinto (although I didn't know it was a Pinto back then) because it was wicked fast! Always good for a race car, and I never realized that these cars were (loosely) based on actual cars. Fast forward to earlier this year when I saw Chris' (hpiguys) build-up of the MPC Ridge Runner: I saw that video, and said "That's the TCR car!" I had to have that kit. Well, I finished it up earlier today, and I am please with the results. The fit & detail left a lot to be desired (no brakes, no steering column, no steering box, very soft details in the engine), but in the end it was a quick pleasurable build. I'm sure there are builders that could build a much more detailed Pinto than I did, but like I said I'm please with the results. The Ford decal on the rear does not come in that kit; it came from my Decal Collection. Edited June 30, 2019 by Jim B
stavanzer Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Great Build. Will you be building the Vega to display with it?
Jim B Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Thanks, guys. Alex, no, I don't think I'll be building the Vega. Now, if I could figure out how to do the Mustang.

Not that difficult. Buy another of those Pinto kits. Then buy a Monogram Mustang coupe kit. A bit of cutting and grinding to mate the two!
mustang1989 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Sweet!!!! I've wondered what this car looked like when finished!
Jim B Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Thanks for the compliments, guys. Tom, that's probably beyond my ability.
1930fordpickup Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 This came out nice Jim. I am sure you could do the Mustang so what if it takes you a long time to get it how you want it.
Jim B Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Andy, thanks for the compliment & the vote of confidence.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Looks Awesome Jim! I built the Vega years ago, but I don't remember much about it. Great work!!
Stevens19 Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Great job! I just finished the Rat Trap Vega, fun little build without a ton of parts that you can do quick.
