my80malibu Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Is there any Information on the Subject of what Models Hobby Lobby will be selling. Each Quarter
Mark Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Best advice is to check the shelf tags at the empty spaces, usually each space is marked with what will occupy that space. The tags often appear before the product does.
Dave Van Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Doubt HL publishes info other than shelf tags......HL is private owned IIRC
niteowl7710 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Go make friends with your local HL model section manager. They're the ones doing the ordering for the store in the first place.
RichCostello Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Mine doesn't even change the shelf tags anymore.
SSNJim Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 You have shelf tags? None of the 4 or 5 I've been to in KY or MD have them. Just the kits sitting on the shelf.
BashTheStash Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 It depends on the market too. My HL is weak. Bigger cities equal bigger availability. I have better luck at Ollies
TarheelRick Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Stopped by Hobby Lobby yesterday and there were several gaps in their display, but none on markdown. Guess someone beat me to it. Did find the Porsche Diesel Tractor hiding behind a 65 Riviera kit, it is now in my collection.

Truck parts Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 The hobby lobby in peoria il has a lot marked down and a lot of spots with a D marked on the tag
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Not sure about that, but if anyone is interested they have select models on sale for $7.99. Have some pretty good ones in the mix too. Got the 66 Merc kit last week and going back this week to get some more.
JRich1522 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I just left the HL in Bloomington Il. with a trunk load of clearance kits and one of the Porsche tractors. I'll have to take the wife out for a steak dinner tomorrow in Decatur and see what their HL has.
Xingu Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Hobby Lobby is a retailer and has no control over what comes out. Look at the manufacturers if you want to know what is coming out each quarter. Hobby Lobby will more than likely get them soon after release.
mikemodeler Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Maybe once Gregg gets the magazine back up and running an article/interview with someone at HL HQ about how they decide what to carry could be done? I find it interesting that some kits you wouldn't think would be there are and ones you expect to be there aren't.
Greg Myers Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 How Does the "Mark Down" compare with their 40% off coupon ?

Nice to get kits for $7.50, but unfortunately most stores are cleared out within hours of the markdowns. It is nice to know that HL can mark down kits 75% and still make money!

They aren't, they're taking somewhere in the neighborhood of a $7 bath on every kit. But such is retail, you get people to come in and buy up all the stock (hence the near immediate sell outs) which frees you from having to wholesale out to someplace like Ollie's. Not to mention for all the stuff people buy there on Clearance (they blow out everything in those stores, not just the models), people are also walking out the door with full MSRP items - which are priced 100% or more above what they paid for them in the first place. It all balances out. You can't just keep the same old junk on the shelves and never reduce the price - that policy is in large part what drove a lot of local hobby shops under. You wind up with a store full of dead stock hogging all the shelf space, which means you carry less new stock - and people stop coming to look at your wall of never rotating model kits. My LHS is a prime example of this, except he sells so much volume from also being on eBay and a major show vendor. But when I go in there for my domestic kit needs I shop from the quadrangle of shelves right by the door that carry the newest kits, I don't bother to go in any further, I've seen the same kits on the back walls now for 3+ years that he's had a physical store, and probably 15 years when he was dragging it around to all the model & collectible shows for 500 miles in every direction. Motor City Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I went to the local one on Saturday. I've never seen kits marked down at this store. The only model I was interested in was the '34 Ford truck, so I used my coupon. Lots of slots were empty or had the ID tag on the side of the cubby crossed out in black magic marker. Some incorrect kits were put in multiple slots to make it look like they had more models than they really had.
Greg Myers Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Jim, i'm afraid this is just indicative of the poor stat of American retail. so few give a dam.
Xingu Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I am just going to lock this one. There are enough Hobby Lobby threads discussing coupons and close-outs.
