Hi!

My dream car: a 68 Javelin, treated as a contemporary pro-touring or G-machine!

Johan rare promo, of which the body and dash are the only remaining parts!

List of scratchbuilt items include: chassis, floor pan, trans tunnel, all interior panels, tubs, radiator & twin electric puller fans,  complete IFS and 4-bar rear suspensions, Ridetech Shockwave rear shocks and front air struts, disc brakes, custom modular seats, console, arm-rest, hand brake lever, shifter, shift light, fuel cell, exhausts, rear amp & speakers enclosure, all wiring and plumbing, etc. etc.

Desert sand lacquer + Wet Look clear, fully polished and BMF'ed. I did NOT rechrome the Johan bumpers, who are not perfect, but are "original survivors". Wheels are Maisto, with front units narrowed to with realistically in the fenders.

I was honored to get a few trophies with the car.

Hours of fun with styrene!

Hi!

Thanks for the comments.

I have a bias, as I wrote, since it IS my dream car. I built real 1/1 cars and rods for a living, so it is on my bucket list... but real Javelin are even more rare than Johan's...

Here's the actual blue promo I started with. Got another one in my stash.

Jury still out as to what to do with it: Bonneville car, replicate a custom AMC experimental station-wagon concept car, or an all-out Pro-Mod, like my Arrogance Duster pictured here...

What do you think?

Looks great, Claude! Very nice work!

Well, Kurt, here is the concept I was talking about... I wouldn't need much convincing to go for it...

Claude, if you build real cars like you do the models, WOW!!!! Nice job as always!!!! Do the Javelin wagon! IT looks like it has AMC Pacer rear side windows, but I know you will scratch build them!!!!!!!!! GO for it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud your choice of color! Thank you for thinking out of the box and reminding us that brown doesnt always mean basic

Hi!

Thanks for the comments.

I get slack once in a while from fellow modelers regarding my use of more "subdued" colors... I will use bold colors and graphics once in a while, but my preference is for subtle nuances.

Harry Bradley created pony-cars station wagons designs for Carl Life magazine eons ago. One was a Javelin station wagon, even more slick than the one in the illustration above. I will try to locate it in my files and post it here ASAP.

As to the use of brown, Willy G, Davidson, head designer for the Motor Company created a Sturgis model in 82, dark clocolate brown (with a touch of khaki) with black contrast panels, with titanium anodized mag wheels. It was a stunner, in my view.

I also fondly recall a 68 Eldorado in my small town when I was a teenager and avid modeler: it was VERY dark brown ( even more than UPS trucks), almost black. I was convinced from that moment on that brown can INDEED be associated with more than basic commercial use.
