crowe-t Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Did Chrysler ever have an engine color that was burnt orange, a brown-ish orange? I've seen Street Hemi Orange(red-orange color) and Race Hemi Orange.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Not that I have ever seen. I can't attest to what color the engines were prior to the mid 50s or so, but colors from that era were usually black, silver or gold. In the 60s, colors included the bright oranges, turquoise, red and later on blue. Once the mid 70s arrived I lost interest and didn't care what color they painted those boat anchors! So to answer your question, without doing some real digging, I can't say that there was no "burnt orange" at some point, but I have never seen it. Steve

SfanGoch Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 I had a slant 6 in my 1972 Plymouth Valiant, for which I bought for $325. It ran for 325 dollars' worth of time (five months) before the "indestructible" Slant 6 seized while I was looking for a parking space.

SfanGoch Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Yeah. I had to fork over 50 bucks to the guy in the scrapyard to take it off my hands.
Tom Geiger Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Not a fan of that color chart. There are inaccuracies... For instance. Slant sixes... 170, 198 were blue 225 were red truck engines were yellow There were also marine application engines. Cannot remember the color
Classicgas Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Sorry tom but the 225 slant 6 in both the 70 and 73 Darts I owned were blue.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Okay, so there seems to be a couple of inconsistencies with this particular chart, but for the purpose of this thread, I believe that we are likely all in agreement that Chrysler did not produce a "burnt orange" engine. Steve

restoman Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 I've owned a few late 60s small block Mopars that had red engines, faded and aged they could be taken as a burnt orange-ish colour...
crowe-t Posted August 18, 2019 Author Posted August 18, 2019 (edited) I was talking with Mike at MCW and he found formulas for 3 Chrysler orange engine colors. Street Hemi Orange, Race Hemi Orange and a sort of burnt orange color. I've never seen a Chrysler engine in the burnt orange color. Edited August 18, 2019 by crowe-t
gtx6970 Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Several years ago.i was told There were 3 different orange 1964-65 Race hemi. 1966-67 street hemi And 1968-71 street hemi. From what i remember...was told there was VERY little difference between 66/67 color versus later version. I personally can't verify or deny them. Just never seen it myself. Mopar burnt orange exterior paint is FK5 . It was never avail as an engine color .
crowe-t Posted August 18, 2019 Author Posted August 18, 2019 The engine color isn't called burnt orange, it just looks like that way. Sorry about the confusion.

Actually, I was referring to a photo of an actual stock engine painted that color. I suspect that you will not find any. If you find anything close, most likely it's a dirty or oxidized version of one of the other oranges. The color on the left looks closer to one of the Ford flathead colors. Steve
crowe-t Posted August 19, 2019 Author Posted August 19, 2019 I haven't been able to find a picture of a Chrysler engine in the color.
