kpnuts Posted November 2, 2019 Author Posted November 2, 2019 Lovely looking ship, have you got more pics of it. Hi all got more planking done, I'm quite pleased with how the stern is turning out.
kpnuts Posted November 12, 2019 Author Posted November 12, 2019 More work on the planking, getting there (mind you so is christmas)
kpnuts Posted November 16, 2019 Author Posted November 16, 2019 Hi all I know I shouldn't yet but I wanted to see how she would look when sanded down so had a quick go. I know still Leeds a bit of filling in places but I'm really chuffed how it looks at the moment.
kpnuts Posted November 18, 2019 Author Posted November 18, 2019 Hi all couldn't resist a bit of varnish (just to see the beauty of the wood grain)
kpnuts Posted November 18, 2019 Author Posted November 18, 2019 Well got the upper wing structure done (shes going to be a fair size)
kpnuts Posted November 21, 2019 Author Posted November 21, 2019 Planking nearly done now Hope things carry on the way they are.
kpnuts Posted November 27, 2019 Author Posted November 27, 2019 Hi all, sooo close Shaping the planks to fit the ever narrowing spaces (scharf joints I think their called ) is a very slow job (and each one is a different shape) but it is surprisingly satisfying when they finally fit.
kpnuts Posted November 29, 2019 Author Posted November 29, 2019 Finally finished the planking of the hull, luckily the top half is black so I can hide the bad bits under the paint, I'm really pleased with the bottom half though which is good since I will just be varnishing that and leaving the wood to show. I must admit its turned out far better than I hoped it would.
kpnuts Posted December 1, 2019 Author Posted December 1, 2019 Hi all planking done and varnished, made up the stand, painted the black top part and added some more to the decking structure.
kpnuts Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Hi all well I'm on to the gunwale covers (why they are called that I dont know, they cover nothing have nothing to do with guns and what wale's are I've no idea) anyway I've made a jig to get all the holes in the same place. Drilled all 52 holes Gunwales installed Bit annoyed with the instructions (and myself for not checking) they tell you to drill 52 holes @ 1.5 mm but the brass wire they supply is only 1 mm
kpnuts Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 Well shes got a name on her now, I feel shes looking like a ship now and with the lines on the side the proportions are looking better (I did think without them she was looking slab sided)
kpnuts Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 Hi all finished the planking on the bow (those little bends in the 2x2mm sapeally were a real pain in the bum, that is the 12th set of those, they kept snapping when trying to bend them) I finally managed to get the bend by soaking them in boiling water then giving them 2 mins in the microwave.
kpnuts Posted December 28, 2019 Author Posted December 28, 2019 Hi all did some to the stern cabin on this, I must say I'm really enjoying this.
Codi Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Hi Kenneth, Saw the title of your thread and remembered building a plastic kit of this ship. One of the most beautiful that ever sailed IMO. Nothing compared to your of course and I want to say how much I like yours and the efforts you're putting forth. Good luck on the rest of it. cheers, tim
kpnuts Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 I made a simple jig to keep the ribs the same distance apart and to keep them perpendicular to each other Made the cats whiskers too.
kpnuts Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 I know I'm jumping ahead a bit (well quite a lot) but I thought it might be interesting to add some of the deck furniture. I made another little jig for the covers for the hatch as there are a lot of them and they all need to be the same.
