GeeBee Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Coming next year, VW Trekker, type 181, not a lot of details just yet, I'll try to find out more on this, could well be a transkit, not sure if the Tamiya or Revell VW Beetle will be used for the base vehicle.
stitchdup Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Sweet, kinda surprised it wasn't done in plastic before now but that body looks good. I'll be looking forward to getting a couple

DPNM Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 This would be a cool model. I had one of these "Thing"s back in the day. It was awesome. I hope this would be available in the U.S. as I typically don't purchase model stuff if it has to cross an ocean.
Tom Geiger Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Very cool, I will need one of those for sure. Before they were made in Mexico and sold in the USA as The Thing, I remember them being used by the German Army on post when I lived there 1969-72.
stitchdup Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 If its made by scale production, it might be hard to find. I believe they only make limited numbers of each transkit as theydont stay on their shop for long. To get one of each of their mk3 jetta transkits took me a month of daily searching so if you want these, you need to buy it when you see it. Their resin is really top quality and no thicker than plastic
TarheelRick Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Would be cool to have one of these to add to my unbuilt collection of VW's. Hope the Revell kit will work as a donor; I have the Flower Power kit and it is a real dog for a body.

It would be even better, if there is a Syncro (AWD) to stitch underneath.

I have the desert and europe military versions and they often pop up cheaper than the egg girls versions. Really nice kits and well worth having if you like vws
stavanzer Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 I have the Desert Version in my stash. Nice Kit.
Eero Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Very nice to see this VW 181 coming! This Scale Production VW is based on a 3D-modeling I made some years ago. I then built one from 3D-printed parts. I used Tamiya Beetle as a base and this Scale Production VW Thing will also be based on Tamiya Beetle. My build from 3D-printed parts: http://www.eerokumanto.com/cars/scale-models/vw-thing
