I'm going to be building a larger scale Mustang 289 V8.

The block is clear but I want to paint the oil pan and air cleaner which are cast in silver plastic.

On some cars I google  see the air cleaner is chrome with the 289 decal, some all blue with the 289 decal.

Also, on some the oil pan is black, on some  it  is Ford blue.

Any consensus on which is most 'correct'?  If not I'll just wing it and do blue oil pan and chrome air cleaner. Thanks!

To the surprise of many the block and everything but the valve covers and air cleaner are black.  The rest is gold.  Only the hipo engines had the chrome air cleaner and valve covers.  So even  65 Shelby engine should be black.  Ford blue was not used until 1966.  Needless to say there are many restored cars out there that are incorrect as people assume the corporate blue was used from day one.

It's a huge missunderstanding that all Ford engines should be blue, I see it all the time on both model cars and real cars...yes they were blue for a long time but as said before in this thread they started painting the engines blue for the 1966 model year so late 1965, between 1959 and 1965 the engines were black with different colored valve covers and air cleaners depending on engine version, gold, yellow, blue, red, chrome etc, before 1959 the engines were different colors like gray, green, red, copper/bronze, yellow, blue so that's a bit more difficult as you have to know wich specific engine and year it is from.
