fordf-100 Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Hi all, this is my third NASCAR build, this is the Salvinos Olds that I just finished yesterday. It’s not completely correct as I left the drivers side window net out to see the interior better, I also used the chrome wheels cause I thought they looked really good on it! I certainly am no expert in NASCAR kits and I have heard a lot of bad things about this kit. Overall I didn’t think it was that bad of a kit, some places it was engineered really well and others not so well. I enjoyed building this and was pretty happy with the overall results! The decals were really nice but using decal set is a must! The bumpers are the upgrades and these came in the Petty Monte Carlo and I was really surprised to see them in there, they required some trimming to fit but are much better than the originals. Comments and criticism always welcome!
Dave Van Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 (edited) You did a nice job on that OLDS!! The kit is not a bad kit. But it did suffer a number of inaccuracies in the first version. The biggest issue with long time NASCAR builders was the rear suspension. Leaf rear suspension was not legal for that year OLDS it had to be some type trailing arms with coil springs. Salvinos corrected this later but the correction was not very good either. 1/25 correct trailing arms next to Salvinos 'fix' trailing arms. There are a few other errors......some of them Salvinos has fixed....a few can not be unless a major re-tool. I am very happy Salvinos has entered the kit market with subjects long awaited. I just wish they had taken some of the help offered early on in the project....the kits would be GREAT rather the good they are now. Edited November 18, 2019 by Dave Van
fordf-100 Posted November 18, 2019 Author Posted November 18, 2019 Thank you! I hope they continue putting out more stuff from this era, I like the older NASCAR kits, I'm going to try a Monte Carlo next!
