minkos Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Merry Christmas everyone...finally finished the interior for one of two AMT annual '63 Bonnevilles I'm building. This car is Yorktown Blue, the other will be Grenadier Red. I'm also working on an uptop for the blue car. I have been struggling with simulating the lucite portions of the steering wheels on the AMT annual Pontiacs that I've done. This time after lots of staring at a picture of the 1:1 steering wheel in a blue interior car, I tried Tamiya Titanium Gold with a little bit of the light blue interior color thrown in for tint. Hopefully I'll get this car done soon.
StevenGuthmiller Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Nice Mark! You can do those transparent steering wheels with some stretched and formed clear sprue. I've used this method with several Pontiac, Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler builds from that era. I had done a tutorial on how I made them back in 2016 in the "Tips, Tricks and Tutorials" section, but unfortunately, the photo links have since been broken after the Photobucket debacle and the board no longer allows updates of old threads. But here are a couple of photos of interiors with the updated steering wheels. On of them is an '63 Bonneville that I built some time ago that shares your color scheme almost exactly! 1961 Chrysler New Yorker 1960 Plymouth Fury 1962 Chrysler 300 1963 Pontiac Bonneville Steve
Eric Macleod Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 The interiors of 60's cars were sooooo cool! I am blown away by the steering wheel upgrades. Amazing.
Curt Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Mark, that steering wheel can be found in the readily available '62 Catalina kit, if you aren't up to fabricating one.
