Jiminwatford
I recently bought the Dodge Monaco Goon car and have become slightly addicted to the idea of building more four door sedans I'm really liking the 70s coke bottle style spread over a four door body I've seen the AMT 1970 Galaxie police car but haven't found one for sale yet Is this niche as non-existent as it seems? I've noticed some people have used special resin bodies but i'm not looking to go that route as i assume it's relatively pricey thanks, James
Atmobil
At the top of my head AMT 90s Ford Taurus (several versions but I belive they are mostly the same) Revell 05 Chevy Impala Revell 91-96 Impala (at lest 3 different versions) Johan 68 Plymouth Fury AMT 05 Chrysler 300 Revell Dodge Charger There are more but as you say, not that many 4 door sedans. The Japanese makers have made quite a few more of them. Several versions of Nissan Skyline as I can recall and many other Toyota, Mitsubishi and Honda among others. Fujimi released a 70s Toyota Mark II Grande a few years ago. It is only in lowrider style but with different wheels it can be made in to a stock version. Then there is also some European cars, Ebbro released the Citroen DS and they have the Renault 4 as do Heller and they also have a Citroen Traction Avant and Tamiya and Revell AG made BMW E36 sedans (not sure if they are the same kits or not). Esci made Mercedes 190E (W201 body 1983-1992) and Revell AG did a Mercedes W124 in both sedan and wagon versions. I'm sure there are more out there, these are the ones I remember at the moment. jefropas
There just aren't many US makes. I think the new 69' Chevy is gonna be a sedan, but most started as police cars and went from there. Shame really, as alot of 2 doors can be made into 4, but the sedans were all a few inches longer so just scribing and filling a coupe and turning it into a sedan looks a bit off... peekay
I'm also a fan of 4 door sedans (and wagons), often preferring them to the 2 door HT. I've always wished their were more in plastic but have learned not to hold my breath. I have this promo-based Johan 1962 Oldsmobile Super 88 4 door. I bought it as seen in the photo, built but without paint or even glue. (It came in its box too but I don't have a photo.)

Jeff I'm sure you meant 67. A 69 would be a huge attention getter.
misterNNL
Most model company's chose to produce kits of the high end/luxury versions. The "more door" models doing yeoman duty as cabs and cop cars were obviously not on their radar. Every car I ever owned except one has had at least three doors. 1972coronet
The 1970 Ford Galaxie Police Car isn't terribly difficult to find ; I see them on eBay quite often . I cannot , however , attest to their availability in Merry Olde ( et al. ) . The 1977-1978 Dodge Monaco kit from MPC is one of my favourites . Until recently , all iterations of that kit had ridiculously-sized tyres and wheels ( e.g. , wheels too-deep in offset ) . Now with the CHP version of the kit , those cartoonish tyres and wheels have been replaced with accurate replacements (and new hubcaps , too !) . When I get a copy of it , the only mods I'm going to make are the addition of a correct brake master cylinder , and the engine / transmission from the AMT 1971 Charger R/T . Vince Nemanic
Back in the '60s the car companies paid the model companies to make promos for them. After the promos were done, the model companies were free to make kits from the molds. The car manufacturers wanted promos of their sportier cars, not their bread and butter ones. Chevy used to have Corvettes and convertibles on the showroom with the expectation of you driving out in a Bel Air wagon- the ones they REALLY made their money off of. Things have changed- now the model companies pay the car manufacturers to make models, and try to find a new 2 door non pickup or non sports car. Just getting ready to build a Monaco , not totally accurate but the chassis from the 71 Charger kit fits pretty good and the Monaco's interior tub will still fit . Jeff I wonder if Chris' example is an early-production example ? I , too , seem to recall that the newly-tooled hubcaps from the 1978 Dodge D-100 were supposed to be included...
