speedy5963 Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 What's good fellow builders! While my daughter had the itch to get back on 2 of her builds, it has given me the itch to pull out some old builds and get back at it! I started these builds sometime between 1996 and 1998 I want to say. The convertible is painted in HOK Kandy Violet over Orion Silver base, do not recall which clear was used. This will be built either as a simple low-rider, basically stock with some wire wheels and thin whites or simple old school with some chrome wheels. Working on the stock interior and engine. The hardtop is covered in HOK Kandy Pagan Gold over Nova Orange base, unsure of the clear. This one will mostly be built using the custom version parts, interior and a few other things. Originally I wanted to really detail these out and build them as contest cars, looking over them I think I'm going to build them as nice, simple shelf models, see how they go together and then build a detailed one down the road. I'm looking forward to seeing them come together, over the past 19+ years I've pulled them out, looked at them with the intent of getting back on them and never did. The fun part of jumping back on an old build is finding pieces that were placed in other boxes, luckily most the parts have been located but I did end up painting another front seat and dash for the convertible this afternoon. The convertible interior pieces has been painted with HOK Passion Purple base coat, the flooring has purple flocking and the door panels have been foiled. I will use a set of the decal inserts on the seats. The hardtop has the custom pleated interior, it has been sprayed in HOK Snow White Pearl base coat and the flooring has black flocking. I am going to change out the steering wheel, I originally pulled the custom option wheel from an AMT 57 Chevy Kit but it really isn't the look i'm going for. While looking for these I found a Revell 49 Merc and 57 Chevy Black Widow I had started that I will be doing some stuff with eventually as well, I'll post some pics her as well to share. Enjoy the pics and I'll keep this updated as progress comes:
speedy5963 Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 Here are a few pics of the 49 Merc and Black Widow I'll eventually be back on.....The Merc is HOK Pagan Gold over a Solar Gold Base with some Matrix Clear. The Black Widow is Kandy Organic Green. I used Planet Green and Orion Silver for the bases to create the two tone paint scheme. There were some fitting issues I had so I'm not sure if I'll salvage this build or start fresh.
72 Charger Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Really nice paint on all of them . They really pop. Can we see the 1/1 57 Chevy?

72 Charger Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Wow shes beautiful ! Looks like you did a lot of work to get her that mint
bisc63 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 These 57 interiors, these very color and fabrics, are among my very favorite old car interiors. Beautiful 59s (makes me miss my 59 Biscayne), and I'd love to see that Pagan gold used on a 57 Chevy; such a gorgeous color!
Modlbldr Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 I love the paint work you have done on all of these. Can't wait to see some progress on them. If you decide to scrap that 57 and start over PM me. I'd love to tackle it. Later-

speedy5963 Posted January 31, 2020 Author Posted January 31, 2020 Getting a little work in on the purple convertible, working on the interior at the moment. The foiling on the seats is no joke, I had it looking decent but there was enough I didn't like so I pulled it off and resprayed the seat, will be tackling it again this weekend!
gman Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Beautiful paint jobs. I would love to see all of these cross the finish line.

Mooneyzs Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Paul... Looking Good Brother!! So glad to see you pull some old builds out and pick back up on them. You are going to do a killer job on them. I have always loved your Pops 57, She is a beauty all done now. Looking forward to updates on these builds
espo Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 The paint jobs are all outstanding. The Orange '59 Hard Top really does it for me. You mentioned fitment issues with the Black Widow and I was wondering what they maybe. I have built a few of these and didn't run into anything that I can remember. The BW looks like you may have "Tubbed" it and that may offer some challenges. I would really enjoy watching these all get completed.

Bell wants to get back on her two projects as well, time to get crackin' On 2/5/2020 at 8:04 AM, espo said: The paint jobs are all outstanding. The Orange '59 Hard Top really does it for me. Thank you, the 59's have been sitting so long, really need to get them going! The Black Widow was not tubbed, just some old school mid slicks on there, trying to recall now what some of the issues were, been a while since I touched that one, a good while
Paul Payne Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 I think your painting and detailing are great- looking forward to them being finished- what engine in the Merc?

Love the hobby but it is so easy to drift away with everything going on right now! Initially I was going to try and hammer these out being they have been sitting so long, but going to take some time and ad some moderate detail to them! 31 minutes ago, Paul Payne said: I think your painting and detailing are great- looking forward to them being finished- what engine in the Merc? Thank you, appreciate the kind comments! My idea with the Merc is to keep it pretty much box stock, ad a few details but mostly want to see how it goes together as I have some ideas for a few more in the future!
doorsovdoon Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 The paint on these is amazing! I especially like the purple 59 and the green Bel Air?

My 59's are on the back burner for a few weeks, dove into an AMT Gremlin, building it for someone who owned one as their first new car, chipping away on a Revell 57 Ford and a few other old projects, little work here and there on this and that at the moment. May end up creating an on going, WIP Thread rather than having several for each project with random updates
