Matt Bacon Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Looks like the licensing issues are resolved, and Airfix is listing the 1/32 Maserati Indy as "New for 2020". If you've always wanted to try one of their 1/32 kits, it's not a bad one, and looks very cool when built... https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/shop/new-for-2020/maserati-indy.html best, M.
Richard Bartrop Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Definitely looking forward to that one. Now if they'll just bring back their Jaguar saloon and Mercedes 280SL.
Rob Hall Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Neat...looked it up, apparently this was sold in the US long ago as an MPC in a couple different releases...I have a few MPC 1/32nds that were Airfix reboxes, neat little kits.
DukeE Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Their website is mess today. Some new 1/24 quick builds though, and Yay! a Coke branded T1 and Type 1 New QB's include R8, Chiron, Raptor
DukeE Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Quick build new tools: New Audi TT; Mustang; newest R8; Jag I-Pace e-Trophy; 68 Mustang; Raptor; Bugatti Chiron. And 1/48 air race liveries on Spitfire
dbostream Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Would be nice to see some of them as kits for adults but don't see it happening. Quick build is like Lego isn't it?
Matt Bacon Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 The implication of the QBs is that they’ve now got license deals with Ford and Jaguar as well as the VW-Audi-Group; I wonder if the McLaren license is still in place? A Senna or Speedtail would be cool! best, M.
DonW Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 I built the Airfix Indy back in the seventies, it is a good representation. I always wondered why they modelled the Indy and not the Ghibli however...

Stolen from Matt Bacon post on Britmodeller https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234983499-bugatti-veyron-and-mclaren-p1-airfix-124ish/ I have these as well. Sort of a snap-fast plus. Far from Lego, couple pieces not seen similar. Other than diecast, only kits of these iconic cars. P1 needed to be kitted instead of 570. Detailed up, painted, panel fitted a bit, pretty nice shelf model.

Matt Bacon Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 The Quick Build’s are unique to Airfix, and are a cross between Lego (held together by studs the same size and spacing as Lego) and a snap kit (external panels and parts in a realistic shape). In terms of building, much like regular “Creator” Lego (as opposed to Technic Lego). They look more realistic than the Lego Speed Machines which are the closest competitor. Revell is going for an even younger market with their Junior Kit range: https://www.revell.de/en/products/junior-kit/city-life/ In ten years or so we’ll see how many Junior Kit or Quick Build kids have caught the modelling bug... best, M.
