What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)

Recommended Posts

I made the continental kit from my '58 Edsel Pacer a little better..

Recessed license plate on the front cover, and will be getting a foil cast Pacer emblem..

Rear cover entirely replaced with a B.F. Goodrich tire from a '57 Chrysler 300, and a steel wheel from who knows where..

Can the back cover be seen when it's on the car?

No, not really..

Totally worth it..

A bit more today Carl. I haven't fixed the rear bed yet just added/painted a few bits behind the cab and painted the roof matte black, ready for a few scuffs.

That's cool, Pat. I would love to see this kit in 1/24. I can think of a ton of things I could do with that.

Took a deep breath and traveled to the summer cottage and picked up the model car projects, the dirty laundry is always voluminously larger than the clean one on the trip there so they have been left behind but tonight I at least pack some into the shelf at home to work on during the winter.

The real fault is the usual one, I lack sufficient discipline to be able to focus on one project at a time.
The goal is to finish what has been started and then just focus on one and if necessary take it with me.

Decided to try and build a box stock and resist the urge to change/modify everything. Got to the paint stage and that’s where everything went south.

I have used this combination of paint before(same primer and paint) on at least two other projects and I had ZERO issues. But this time it was not meant to be. I ended up with TWO bodies that crazed for no apparent reason. Primer went on nice and smooth, dried for two days. Paint was nice and glossy and smooth when sprayed but after about 30 minutes it crazed.

I swear it took all my willpower not to HULK out on both of these.

Not technically model car work, but I replaced the original relief valve (40ish max) on my converted paint pressure tank that I use for casting resin parts with an adjustable one. It will now hold the 60psi needed.

I started working on the Hasagawa Type 2 VW pick up again. I wasn’t happy after I painted it so I decided to strip it and start over.I primed it a couple of days ago. I also stripped the paint off the fender on the C1 Models Beetle fender scooter. It was originally painted red, but I am going to paint it another color.I also painted the exhaust with Revell chrome spray. I’m hoping to get it painted soon?

I had the issue also. I started using primer/sealer over filler primer when needed, so far so good.

Today I went out to my shop, turned on the lights, sat down and looked around for a few minutes before sighing and going back into the house. I really need to get motivated. Maybe after New Years?

I have been there but model magazines help especially contest cars and YouTube model videos..

Got off to a flying start on that secondhand '66 Mustang I mentioned twice with photos in "what did you get today". Engine is completed, wheels and tires were selected and assembled, suspension parts all painted and ready to assemble, interior sprayed and also ready for assembling, and I sanded down the hood and body as it had been atrociously painted red with a brush. Unfortunately it's -15 celsius here so spraying the car may have to wait. Rear windsheild needs to be tended to because it has glue all over it so the plan is to sand it, spray a tinted clearcoat, and cover it with clear vinyl; did that for my '66 Shelby GT 350 as it was also secondhand and had gluey fingerprints on both front and rear windsheilds. The front windsheild on this '66 is in fact clear so that's good.
